Job Description

Alight Solutions seeks a high-performing privacy attorney looking for an opportunity to join a collaborative and energetic legal department to support a rapidly transforming and dynamic business. This position is for an experienced privacy attorney responsible for developing a world class data privacy program. The attorney will help drive Alight's strategic priorities by enhancing the company's data stewardship vision, including thought leadership on use of AI, machine learning and related programs.

Essential Functions/Core Responsibilities

The position will have the following general responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic business partner and trusted legal advisor to senior business leaders, help advance strategic business initiatives and provide day-to-day support.
  • Evaluate evolving privacy laws and regulations and provide comprehensive advice regarding their impact to Alight.
  • Partner with Alight's security team to develop and maintain proper oversight of cybersecurity policies, controls and rapid incident response plans.
  • Closely partner with product developers, engineers, and data analytics leaders regarding data usage and product features, enabling data innovation and experimentation, and data sharing across multiple applications and offerings.
  • Develop integrated strategies across Alight to optimize new data use and innovations for company and customer benefit.
  • Clearly communicate and help non-experts understand complex and rapidly evolving regulations and requirements.
  • Interact with regulatory authorities in various jurisdictions in connection with proactive and reactive data related matters
  • Review acquisition targets to determine the extent of privacy and data protection policies and practices and prioritize integration requirements.
  • Other responsibilities include handling: incident and breach management, digital marketing and online behavioral tracking, cross border data flow, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Assist in driving operational excellence, including development of procedures, tools and metrics to monitor use and effectiveness of legal services, and reports on such trends.
  • Occasional travel, including internationally, may be required depending on assigned projects.

Candidate Profile

  • At least 6-10 years of substantive experience practicing privacy and data protection. In-house experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to provide good, proactive professional guidance and advice, and sound business-focused solutions that combine excellent judgment, strategic thinking, creativity, risk-taking, and technical expertise.
  • Knowledge of and experience analyzing and advising on global privacy laws and data protection regulations, including HIPAA, CCPA, and GDPR.
  • Familiarity with oversight and utilization of artificial intelligence, machine learning and related programs.
  • Experience negotiating data processing and business associate agreements, particularly in connection with HR or technology-related services.
  • Detail-orientation and ability to balance competing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate information to senior management and various business colleagues and successfully impact decision-making.
  • Share Alight's purpose and values, including high ethical standards, teamwork, client service, work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Candidate must have Juris Doctor and be admitted to the bar in at least one state.

Pay Transparency Statement: Alight takes into consideration a candidate's experience, education, certification/credentials, market data, internal equity, and geography when determining an offer for a successful employment candidate, and Alight does so on an individualized, non-discriminatory basis. Therefore, an offer may fall anywhere between the estimated minimum base salary for this role of $140,900.00/year (for full time employees) and the estimated maximum base salary for this role of $223,600.00/year (for full time employees). In addition to a base salary, this position may be eligible for a bonus and/or other incentive plans.
