VICE x News

The award-winning VICE News team develops and produces news content across VICE platforms and partner platforms. The digital news team focuses on unique and creative ways to relay global news and tell high-impact stories. This is a collaborative team that works together to make everyone’s projects better. We believe in listening to everyone’s ideas and bringing on a diverse group of people who love working together to make the best, most unique news content out there.

Role x You

As a senior producer you will guide the editorial direction of digital videos for the VICE and VICE News YouTube channels and other digital platforms, by overseeing pieces and series and managing producers and associate producers. You have an exceptional handle on what makes a good story and know how to motivate and advise a team to get the best version of it. 

In the short term… you will work with producers and APs to develop pitches for greenlight. You’ll have pre-production meetings to delve into angles, characters and story arcs, and help the team execute when they’re in the field. After deployments, you’ll edit, rewrite, and tweak scripts as needed, and work with the team throughout the editing process and final sign off by the EP. You will ensure all content adheres to the high editorial standards of Vice News.  Expect to manage various shoots and stories at once.

After 6 months in this role… You’ll be developing edgier and more unique story ideas that set us apart, and making sure your ideas grow editorially. You’ll be regularly pitching new series and documentaries. You will grow into managing a team of 4-6 producers and associate producers.

And after a year... You’ll comfortably and independently lead editorial within the team, with a full understanding of what makes a Vice News story and digital production great.

Qualifications

You have these:

• Minimum 6 years experience building stories with a team
• Experience managing teams of producers, assistant producers, and editors to ensure deadlines are met
• Excellent news judgment and experience developing and executing series
• Mastery of story arc and how to build characters, scenes, and moments
• Excellent writing and script editing skills
• Collaborative team player with a positive attitude
• Ability to develop and pitch unique story ideas and angles, with research to back it up 

We’d love if you also had these:

• Digital newsroom experience working on tight deadlines
• Familiarity with video across digital platforms, including YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTik
• Experience managing direct reports
• Ability to edit on Premiere Pro
