Senior Product Designer

Hearst Newspapers is looking for a Senior Product Designer, specializing in UX/UI on our design team, working closely with other Product Designers, UX Researcher & Analyst, our Product leadership team, Engineers, the Product Manager, and Product Design Manager, as well as other team members across our organization. You will study user problems and use your design prowess to create solutions that benefit our users and move our business forward.

At Hearst Newspapers, you will join a diverse, supportive community of creatives building new experiences in digital publishing. You will have the opportunity to employ an end-to-end product design skill set including visual design, user experience design, user research, prototyping and presentation/interaction coding for multiple digital entities. Contribute to an end-to-end design process that allows you to fully understand and own your work.

What will you do?

• You will produce personas, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, design prototypes, design specifications, wireframes and motion-based prototypes to show design intent and guide implementation for assigned jobs.
• You will effectively communicate findings, conceptual ideas, detailed designs, and design rationale both verbally and visually.
• You will participate in product ideation and conceptual development.
• You will work closely with development teams to ensure that design and interaction specifications are implemented.
• You will create visual design systems, principles and guidelines that can effectively communicate product viability, product function, satisfy business requirements, and align with user needs across HNP's mobile and web products.
• You will maintain and update design system components, update documentation, collaborate with teams for integration and ensure ongoing alignment with industry standards.
• You will innovate on existing components to include new and improved functionality through testing.
• You will work closely and plan strategically as a partner with engineering, product and brand to define the future of design systems at HNP.
• You will uphold a high standard for design excellence and contribute to raising the bar for design at our company.
• You will evaluate and improve usability and accessibility of components and be a champion for the user.
• You will work with product designers by providing clear feedback on usage, conventions, and patterns.

What will it take to be successful?

5+ years professional experience designing web or mobile products that have been fully implemented and released to a consumer or business market. Experiences should include working on a content management system and/or marketing platform and a design system.

• Expert in user interface design
• Experience distilling complex product requirements.
• A commitment to user research and testing, accessibility, and inclusive design
• Self-motivation, strong attention to detail, excellent communication, an open mind, the ability to thrive in multidisciplinary teams, and the skills to balance great design with short deadlines.
• A love of collaboration and learning.
• Hands-on knowledge of contemporary digital product design tools and technologies. This could include Figma, Sketch, Invision, Framer, HTML, CSS, JS, React, and Git
• Portfolio of design work showcasing your work.

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York City. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York, is $115k-$130k. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
