Senior Product Designer

We are seeking a Senior Product Designer with expertise in building and maintaining design systems. You’ll join a growing design team and play a pivotal role in improving the user experience of our products and shaping the way our Research & Development team collaborates. Initially, this position will be a 70/30 split between the design system and feature work. As the design system matures, the position will shift towards more feature work.

The ideal candidate is someone comfortable working on complex and ambiguous problems in a fast-paced environment. They’re a self-directed learner, always staying up to date on design system best-practices and keen to share those with the broader design team.

Responsibilities

• Own our design system, being an advocate for consistency, scalability, and reusability.
• Work with the design team, frontend engineers, and QA to standardize and document design tokens, components, and patterns across products and platforms.
• Help us establish processes for creating new components and modifying existing components.
• Expertly create and maintain our Sergeant Figma Libraries, building flexible, scalable, and durable components in Figma that help our design team move quickly and efficiently.
• Work with cross-functional partners to roll out the design system, pay off design debt, and measure usage and adoption over time.
• Independently own the end-to-end design process from user flow diagrams to polished designs that are ready for engineering handoff.
• Provide mentorship to other designers on the team and contribute to our culture of collaboration.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in product design, with experience owning, building, or significantly contributing to design systems. Bonus points if you have built a design system from scratch.
• Strong understanding of design tokens and how to effectively layer base and alias tokens.
• Mastery over Figma components, including variables, properties, and variants. Familiarity with
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and rationale to diverse audiences.
• An ability to simplify complex ideas, identify risks and dependencies, and deliver excellent work within technical constraints.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience leading design projects and mentoring junior team members.
• A conceptual understanding of HTML, CSS, and React.
