Senior Product Designer, Design Systems

We are looking for a senior product designer with a strong systems-thinking mindset to develop guidance, patterns, and components for our Web and Native Design Systems. You will work closely with design and engineering partners to create flexible, reusable, accessible, and well-documented components that will provide efficiencies across the breadth of our product development process. This role provides the opportunity to delve into many products and platforms to understand and document their needs, so the right candidate will understand the importance of learning and documenting design as much as they enjoy creating visual components and libraries. 

This is an opportunity to gain experience on a young design system as it matures and evolves to cover multiple platforms. We’re looking for team members who can deliver industry-level visual design, in-depth documentation of their work, and can deliver egoless design guidance with an eye toward platform consistency.  

This role reports to the Head of Design Systems

What you’ll do:

• Support design systems across all of our verticals with initial focus on the consumer experience.
• Pair with product designers to collect, componentize, and document requirements for new and existing components - including state and operating system variants
• Pair with our engineering team to create consistent, accessible components and patterns.
• Organize and manage Figma libraries for our Design organization.
• Write, edit, and illustrate documentation for our Design System assets.
• Meet with product team members daily via slack or Office Hours to understand and provide guidance around new or existing UI or components.
• Be an articulate ambassador for Design Systems. 
• Work within sprint cadences to deliver assets to teams according to a roadmap.
• Learn and retain knowledge of teams’ projects and historical component guidance to provide assistance to teams across the organization. 
• Stay up on Design System industry innovations and technical improvements.

What you’ll bring:

• 8+ years working in the design industry.
• 3+ years of working in a product-led organization. We prefer but do not require experience working in a design system role.
• A strong visual aesthetic and design point of view, exampled in a rich portfolio
• Experience working on products or apps which have been used in consumer or professional experiences.
• Full understanding of what a design system is and how to properly build and maintain it from a component perspective. 
• Crisp communication skills.
• Experience creating and maintaining strong relationships with multiple stakeholders across a variety of disciplines.
• Informed and strong opinions, loosely held.
• A practitioner of user-centric processes and design thinking principles.
• A working to expert knowledge of Figma, including libraries.
• An understanding of the differences between web and Native architectures and design requirements.
• Enough knowledge of code to actively participate in code reviews of components.
• Experience documenting design guidelines.
• Knowledge of accessibility best practices for web and mobile applications.
• Willingness to learn as well as teach.
• Have a working knowledge of other existing industry design systems.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
