Senior Product Designer - Experimentation

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer - Experimentation to support our rapidly growing team in Missoula, MT or Seattle, WA. This role will be responsible for creating rapid prototypes for new, emerging product ideas in advance of formal discovery and product development. This is a unique opportunity to operate in the space of “what if…?” and imagine new possibilities in the world of grant-making and CSR. This role will collaborate directly with executive leadership to ideate and quickly translate high-level concepts into designs both for internal feedback and customer input. Designs will begin in low fidelity for internal brainstorming and directional alignment, and then graduate to higher fidelity prototypes put directly in front of customers. 

This role will also be responsible for conducting evaluative research on the prototypes and reporting their findings. Rather than following their work through to implementation, it is expected that the designer passes their validated concepts to a cross-functional team for road mapping and further product discovery. The designer then proceeds to the next concept in the innovation pipeline. 

This is a full time position that reports to the Product Design Manager.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Work with the Product Board (CTO/CRO/CMO/CEO) to prioritize which ideas to pursue; occasionally host ideation workshops to facilitate divergent thinking and shared understanding
• Translate high-level requirements into prototypes with an emphasis on rapid iteration and quality visual design
• Create artifacts such as user flows, storyboards, and wireframes that easily communicate the problem to be solved and intended solution
• Seek feedback on designs from stakeholders and broader design team at Submittable
• Adhere to usability best practices and heuristics
• Conduct a variety of evaluative research activities (i.e. 5-second testing, first-click testing, usability testing) to validate the effectiveness of design concepts
• Maintain a consistent and polished look and feel for all customer-facing solution concepts and prototypes
• Annotate designs to ensure that intention and process are captured for downstream handover
• Work within time constraints, generally estimating and timeboxing key milestones
• For certain concepts, iterate to bring the design into higher levels of visual and functional fidelity

You’ll Be Successful With:

• 4+ years experience as a Product Designer
• Experience with SaaS and associated business models
• Strong collaboration skills
• Strong command of design software (e.g. Figma)
• Fluency in visual and interaction design fundamentals: color, typography, hierarchy, iconography, spacing, and motion
• Lead conversations about design decisions with individuals outside of the product organization
• Ability to perform design techniques including storyboarding, information architecture, interaction models, user research, and prototyping
• Proven experience shipping customer-facing products that provide measurable business value
• Experience working in an agile design and development environment.
