Role Summary
The Senior Development Engineer is responsible for the planning, development and execution of research and development projects in pursuit of the integration of advanced enabling materials and developing new processes to create next-gen exterior components and modules. The Senior Development Engineer's responsibilities are described as follows:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Manages research, design, and development of new or advanced products in compliance with automotive standards and customer specifications from concept development to validated system.
• Manages the development of advanced manufacturing processes to enable production intent proof of concept exterior systems.
• Acts as technical liaison supporting all exterior product lines with cross-functional departments, suppliers, and customers with respect to advanced product technology, validation, and manufacturing.
• Coordinates and exercises functional authority for the planning, organization, budget, integration, and completion of advanced product projects within Global Magna Exteriors.
• Supports Sales Team with initial business case development on new products where a manufacturing division has not yet been fully determined or engaged.
• Responsible to contribute to the Product and Technology Roadmaps related to Magna Exteriors Innovation Vision to ensure technology needs are identified and executed to meet Business Plan objectives.
• Works closely with corporate and divisional management and business personnel to identify the need for and marketability of new products, processes, and technology.
• Reviews product designs to ensure compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer requirements and specifications.
• Leads initiatives for continuous product improvement and growth of innovation development capabilities.
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers.
• Works closely with Magna Exteriors Design group to develop future concepts and advanced systems.

Education/Special Knowledge/Skills - Bachelor's Degree in technical engineering field preferably Mechanical Engineering . Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience - Minimum of 10 years of automotive engineering, manufacturing, and/or product development experience. Must have innovation / concept ideation stage-gate knowledge. Knowledge of automotive exteriors materials, manufacturing, quality, and technical standards along with:

• Strong organizational, task management and leadership skills are required to prioritize, coordinate projects, manage conflicting needs, and successfully complete multiple tasks.
• Proven ability to champion innovative opportunities in order to expand the organization's current and future business.
• Above average communication skills (written and verbal).
• Proficient with the use of design testing equipment. Hands-on concept fabrication ability.
• Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management and database software applications.
• Experience in injection molding processes and technology preferred.
• Understanding of automotive polymer materials preferred.

Skills - Technical presentation and time/resource planning. Basic financial aptitude required.
