Job Description

Our Product Managers own the end to end experience of a specific area of our products from problem definition to solution development to delivery. They are responsible for creating and delivering exceptional user experiences that provide high value to non-profits and supporters. At GoodUnited, product development is a collaborative effort between engineering, design, data science, customer-facing teams, and our end users.
What does a Senior Product Manager do at GoodUnited?:
- Talks to a range of stakeholders, looking for deeper insight into the opportunities that create the highest possible value in their product area. Uses research as a key input into problem and solution definition, driven by innate curiosity.
- Proactively defines the problems for their area of product, including complex ones, creating exceptional clarity for the team. Continues to refine understanding of the problem as we learn more.
- Steers team explorations of multiple solutions to the problem statement. Challenges the team to question their assumptions about what's actually needed and when, exposing hidden assumptions and product risks across the broader system, not just the local product area.
- Identifies ways to learn faster. Uses hypotheses to focus the team on driving outcomes, and actively shares relevant learnings across teams and with product leadership.
- Uses data insights to evaluate and inform the product strategy. Can independently seek and evaluate their own data insights.
- Proactively, researches the competitor landscape and industry trends for their use case and how that translates to competitive advantages for our products.
- Develops and owns the team's roadmap for their product area based on company strategy. Ensures the team has a consistent, reliable shipping momentum. As a result, the team is efficient and productive, and demonstrates this with demos and high team morale.
- Resolves issues within the team and makes meaningful decisions quickly, even when they have incomplete information. Doggedly drives others to make decisions quickly too. Ensures the team is unblocked, making constant progress.
- Creates alignment across teams by communicating frequently with a broad range of stakeholders (cross functional partners, manager, R&D leaders) in a collaborative manner. Understands each stakeholder's perspective and ensures that they have been appropriately considered. Able to anticipate common feedback and address it proactively.
- Collaborates with Product Marketing effectively and is very proactive with onboarding enablement for internal and external customers to ensure the product has the best chance of success.
What experience and skills does a Senior Product Manager need to be successful here?:
- 5+ years of experience in product management across increasingly complex products
- Experience leading continuous product discovery on a cross functional team
- Experience owning products that have strong data components and leverage predictive models
- Experience working with B2B2C products that have multi-sided experiences preferred
- Experience building messaging products and/or leveraging Facebook Messenger and/or other chat tools and platforms preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, who can relate to and build constructive relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Collaborative and data-driven with a relentless passion for delivering five-star experiences to customers and team members
- Excellent organization and time-management skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and initiate things independently and act or take charge before others do
