Job Description

Databases are the beating heart of every business in the world.

Cockroach Labs is the creator of CockroachDB, the cloud-native, distributed SQL database that scales fast, survives anything, and thrives anywhere. We created CockroachDB to unshackle teams from the constraints of their database. Join us on our mission to enable every developer to build world-changing applications!

About the Role

CockroachDB has established a product-market fit for our cloud/DBaaS offering among data leaders of all sizes and revenue segments. There is a real opportunity in front of us to hit escape velocity. The Growth team is on a mission to drive that and accelerate customer acquisition, adoption, monetization, retention, and expansion for our cloud/DBaaS business.

We are looking for an experienced Growth PM who will deliver on the primary goal of building highly customized, successful self-serve and sales-assisted motions. This person will be responsible for leading the product team that crafts product experiences that will change the trajectory of the activation metrics, improve adoption, and ultimately, deliver ready-to-buy accounts to the Revenue team.

The Senior Product Manager, Growth will ultimately be accountable for making the "try it before you buy it" experience undeniably appealing to prospects and enabling high-velocity sales and expansions. This is a great time to join the team as it is in its formative phases, so this individual will have a huge opportunity to influence the culture of the team.

You Will
  • Own the growth strategy, and roadmap for the entire cloud platform
  • Be responsible for creating self-service and sales-assist motions
  • Be accountable for achieving the team’s goals and supporting top-level company OKRs
  • Lead and guide product direction for a cross-functional first team of engineering, design, data, and GTM counterparts
  • Communicate fluently, and crisply with both engineers, and GTM stakeholders
  • Know when to use data, but not let data dictate all possible pathways
  • Contribute to developing a culture of experimentation and rapid learning
  • Build a solid backlog of ideas focused on driving the key metrics
  • Deeply understand our customers and their needs
  • Thrive in the intersection of data, customer empathy and bias towards action
The Expectations

In the first 30 days, you will understand the market context, our strategic priorities, and in-flight major initiatives. You'll develop hands-on experience of using the product, workflows, and functionalities. You’ll meet with your first team, as well as the department heads in supporting functions like Product, Engineering, Sales, Data and Marketing. You will get to know the experimentation stack, begin contributing and leading the Growth team rituals around running point, product councils, and OKR reviews with the first team. After three months you will be fully integrated into the team, and have informed opinions on different areas to focus, opportunities, blockers and experiment pipeline.

You Have
  • Minimum of 3 years as a product manager in a Growth environment
  • Shipped high-impact B2B products or experiences
  • Led Growth initiatives with a focus on growing Activation/Adoption rates, and ARR
  • Experienced working on Growth in the context of a Sales-team
  • Experience running in-product experiments
  • Evidence of strong collaboration in cross-functional team environments esp. engineering and GTM functions
  • Strong analytical skills, and competence in SQL
  • Growth mindset: Prioritize progress over perfection, expert in balancing user and business impact
Good-to-have
  • Experience at a fast-growth company
  • Experience building for developers working on a developer platform or cloud infrastructure products (database experience not required)
  • Understanding of database concepts (ex: CI/CD, Serverless, storage etc.)
