Job Description

Company Overview

Outset is a medical technology company pioneering a first-of-its-kind technology to reduce the cost and complexity of dialysis. The Tablo Hemodialysis System, FDA cleared for use from the hospital to the home, represents a significant technological advancement that transforms the dialysis experience for patients and operationally simplifies it for providers. Tablo serves as a single enterprise solution that can be utilized across the continuum of care, allowing dialysis to be delivered anytime, anywhere and by anyone.  The integration of water purification and on-demand dialysate production enables Tablo to serve as a dialysis clinic on wheels, with 2-way wireless data transmission and a proprietary data analytics platform powering a new holistic approach to dialysis care.

Position Overview

Outset is looking for an experienced, service oriented, technically minded, strategic, curious, and authentic technical product manager to objectively shape and drive Outset’s service product portfolio now and into the future.

This individual will own all product and market activities to define and guide the service strategy for Outset across all markets: from hospital to home. Additionally, this individual will work on programs that support the overall Tablo business including projects that improve our operating costs and programs that drive customer satisfaction.   The Senior product manager will represent both internal customers (field service, customer support, sales) and external customers (from biomedical engineers to medical directors) to create and maintain a consistent and measurable service and device performance product roadmap for Outset. This includes managing the tools and data needed to provide effective, proactive, and predictive service; mapping the differentiated service offerings to optimize the customer experience across the varied market landscape; supporting the service strategy for new product development; and leading sustaining efforts to optimize the performance of the Tablo hemodialysis platform.

Together with interaction from design, software, product management and customer support peers, the product innovation manager will work closely with the engineering and service teams to ensure a streamlined prioritization and development process valuing user centered design, positive customer experiences, innovative technology, and effective product support. This individual will also need to effectively transition projects and communicate their respective messaging to the sales teams to ensure successful product launches and promotion.

Essential Job Functions

  • Determine product vision, strategy, pricing and positioning of the service product line in a large, rapidly growing market that has been starved of innovation and is looking to empower the patient in their own care
  • Lead efforts on upstream marketing activities like new project recommendations as well as downstream activities like collateral design and implementation
  • Engage with the software and hardware team to add innovation to both the service product line as well as Tablo; build business cases accordingly.
  • Work with and lead large cross functional teams on projects that range from improving internal efficiency to launching new Tablo features.
  • Assess market and competitive opportunity and define the user and service needs across hospital, in-center, and self-care dialysis markets
  • Be the lead contributor for achieving revenue and gross profit targets for service offerings
  • Perform necessary analytics to develop and execute service product roadmap release plans, service contract offering viability and pricing considering competitive positioning
  • Lead data driven prioritization of product development activities, while managing tradeoffs and balancing cross functional team timelines with company goals
  • Be the subject matter expert of Outset’s service products both internally and externally
  • Spend significant time in the field with service and sales personnel, KOLs, customers and at industry conferences to understand market stakeholder needs, ideas, and to stay at the forefront of market dynamics and trends
  • Ensure adherence to Company Quality policy and procedures
  • Lead the overall service and sustaining product vision and build a team around these efforts

Requirements:

  • Minimum BS in Engineering, Math, Science, or related, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-8 years’ experience within service or managing sustaining medical capital and/or software ecosystem product management, positioning and placement.
  • Strong business acumen and experience in creating financial business models and new project pitches.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal in English, Spanish is a plus) and able to present ideas clearly in a public setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, social, negotiation, and decision-making skills to build effective relationships across a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Self-starter who can remain positive and empathic while balancing a realistic and objective mindset
  • Strategic and creative thinker who is intellectually curious and able to bridge technical, clinical, regulatory and sales leaders internally and customers (from the biomed to the nephrologist to the patient) externally
  • Strong team player who can incorporate input from others and can generate consensus through inclusion
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Good organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines in an environment of competing priorities.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% time (US)

Desired Qualifications:
