About this role
Det-Tronics is an industry leading division of Carrier's global Industrial Fire and Safety business, and has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Program Manager in the Engineering group to support their existing and growing portfolio of fire, gas and smoke detection products. These detection products utilize a variety of proprietary sensing technologies from optical to chemical that must be certified to a wide range of industry standards and country-specific regulations. Customers around the world rely on these connected products to keep people and property safe in challenging hazardous environments found in applications from traditional POG (Petrochemical, Oil and Gas) markets to the latest Renewable & Clean Energy ones. This Sr. Program Manager position offers a rewarding career in Carrier to lead new and sustaining development projects for these diverse markets and applications.
Responsible for management of projects for Det-Tronics products and cross-functional business processes related to product enhancement and efficiency improvements. Capability to work in a self-directed cross-functional manner while demonstrating technical project leadership, communication, and organizational abilities to deliver project results for business unit commitments. Foundational skills & expertise for this role are required in project management, engineering, product development, and general business management processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multiple cross-functional / department projects of medium to high complexity. Projects are largely electromechanical in nature for sustaining products involving software / firmware.
- Develop project plans, strategies, and schedules that include defining project objectives, requirements, KPI's, business case, budget, resources needs and key assumptions.
- Execute projects following applicable development processes and support their continuous improvement.
- Effectively lead and guide project teams against their goals and their deliverables including any external resources and suppliers using company management processes and tools with daily and weekly meetings, as appropriate.
- Manage and own the project budget.
- Hands on development of project technical planning documents and support of any team's project documents or deliverables by helping with their creation, edit, and review.
- Identify, manage and escalate project risks ensuring appropriate mitigation and contingency plans are developed.
- Identify and manage through project issues and priority changes that can affect execution to find a common ground and path forward; define any required project scope or deliverable changes.
- Create, manage and communicate project resource needs including in weekly project priority and resource meetings.
- Track and manage project metrics such as schedule, status, accomplishments, and risks. Coordinate and handle any required communication and report-outs.
- Follow the company's quality management system and all applicable processes and regulations.
- Other duties and programs as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum 3+ years' experience in project management of electromechanical products.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in an engineering field.
- Advanced technical degree or MBA desired.
- Participated in the development and commercialization of at least one electromechanical product.
- Minimum 3+ years of related and successful work experience in project management of electromechanical products.
- Formal Project Management training/certificate (PMP) a plus.
- Experience and strong familiarity with the product-development stage gate program governance and program structures.
- Strong knowledge of core functional areas and workflow processes in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical and Software/Firmware), Regulatory/Approvals, Manufacturing and Quality.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with all cross functional swim-lanes up and down the organization.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, demonstrating creativity and technical expertise.
- Ability to lead, understand/empathize and build trusting and collaborative partnerships/ relationships within cross functional project specific teams.
- Strong self-starter: ability to anticipate risks, quickly formulate options to resolve problems and promote/present internally to leadership
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while also able to prioritize.
- Strong sense of urgency, quality, self-initiative, sense of ownership and customer satisfaction orientation.
- Presentation and communication acumen with audiences of varying group sizes, technical skill levels and levels of business responsibilities.
- Organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to pull data from assorted sources and synthesis in both graphic and verbal forms.
- Proficient skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, SharePoint, Teams).
- Experience with Confluence/Jira tools, Agile Methodology highly desired.
- Experience with fire and safety products and markets a plus.
