National Grid is hiring a Product Developer for our New York Customer Energy Management department on our Growth Team. This position may be based in one of our New York locations.
Job Purpose
To support new product development of customer program offerings in the areas of energy efficiency, electric demand response and electrification of heat efforts for our residential, multi-family, small business, large commercial, low/moderate income customers and disadvantaged communities. The Product Developer will be a member of the Customer Energy Management (CEM) New York's Growth team.
A Product Developer is the project manager of new idea development. Responsible for driving cost-effective customer products and services through development and leads in equitable program design. The Product Developer will be responsible for bringing new ideas through the discovery process (assessing the customer value proposition, business case, and technical feasibility of proposed programs). For viable ideas, the Product Developer, supported by subject matter experts, will develop a product development plan, laying out the scope, schedule, budget and resources necessary for product development. The Product Developer supports implementation of the product development plan and, for successful products, develops a product launch plan. The Product Developer remains a resource to the product launch team throughout the product launch.
There is a focus on: demand side management (DSM) products for reducing gas and electric system peak needs; use of data and modeling to inform opportunities; development of new products for low- and moderate-income customers and for disadvantaged communities; supporting corporate and state climate goals; and exploring new business models.
Key Accountabilities
- Develops viable ideas into new pilots or programs working closely with supporting staff from Customer Insights, Marketing, Procurement, Legal, Regulatory, IT, the Gas and Electric System teams, and Advanced Data Analytics.
- Manages the product development of new EE, electric DR and electrification of heat pilots and programs after ascertaining the value and feasibility of new ideas
- Works closely supporting CEM NY product owners on ensuring that pilots and programs represent a clear fit with current regulatory, system, and earnings pathways.
- Collaborates with market actors, other utilities, and NYSERDA as appropriate
- Provides status updates, metrics and reporting necessary to support CEM Growth Manager in evaluating the health of overall product innovation portfolio

- Design thinking, project management, product development, commercial acumen, technology savvy, customer oriented, development of customer value propositions and business cases and stakeholder management.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in a business, social science, environmental science, engineering or related area and 3-5 years of work experience in the energy efficiency industry
- Experience with the principles of project or product management; experience with project or product management tools a plus.
- Has knowledge of the electric and gas industry, energy efficiency program planning, design, implementation and evaluation, and state/national energy policy.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Competence with Microsoft Office and remote working technology.
- Has the ability to initiate and complete projects with minimal guidance from others
- Quickly grasps complex issues and can effectively integrate, compile and analyze complex information and data. May guide others in solving complex problems.

$99,000 - $116,000 a year - Brooklyn, NY
Salary commensurate with location and experience
