Your Opportunity

As a Senior Project Architect, you will work on tasks under the guidance of a Project Manager. This is a senior level Project Architect/Technical Details/Contract Administration role in Stantec's Health Sector. You will be working independently and in teams to lead technical design documentation and administer construction phase tasks on one or more ongoing projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for projects of large and medium complexity and scale.

• Assists in the planning, organization, and directing of the work throughout the life cycle of the project.

• Supervises the preparation of documentation in various architectural phases including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections and details.

• Manages technical production teams.

• Leads project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner, contractor, and sub-contractors.

• Assists in the evaluation and selection of building systems and materials.

• Coordinates building systems (structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.

• Implements sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.

• Mentors junior and mid-career staff on technical development and professional practice.

• Interprets and applies building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.

• Participates in the preparation of specifications and coordination with other construction documents.

• Participates in constructability review.

• Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own and peer review on other projects.

• Reviews shop drawings and submittals, responds to RFIs, prepares site observation reports and other contract administration tasks.

• Participates in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.

• Participates in bidding and negotiation phase and prepare addenda.

• Participates in value engineering.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Produce design at a level that would be perceived externally as excellent.

• Strong history with construction documentation and construction administration for healthcare projects.

• Strong problem-solving skills.

• History of working on complicated renovations and adaptive re-use projects.

• Strong knowledge and application of accessibility codes, applicable building codes and FGI.

• Demonstrated ability to represent our clients while working well with Construction Managers.

• Strong communication skills with internal teams, client, and Construction Managers alike.

• Understanding of cost implications of architectural and systems changes and decisions.

• Strong knowledge of building construction systems means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards are expected.

• Full understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

• Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma, Sefaira, or other Recent modeling softwares.

Ability To:

• Check work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

• Participate and collaborate in a project team setting through all phases of architectural document production and contract/construction administration.

• Engage in creative and critical thought.

• Hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.

• Interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material. To communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written).

Education and Experience

Professional degree in Architecture. Minimum of 15 years of experience. Architectural license required; LEED AP preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
