General Summary:

Unum is looking to hire a Sr. Project Manager within the Digital Transformation space. This candidate should have significant experience with Agile/ Scrum and BPM systems such as Pega. This is a key role within the Digital Transformation team and will be responsible for implementing high-quality, innovative software solutions.

This successful candidate will need to exhibit strong consultative skills, adaptability, and a high degree of sense of urgency and ability to meet tight delivery schedules. An understanding of Core SDLC principles/ process workflows and comfortability with implementing best practices pulled directly from industry experience are key to this role. Additionally, the candidate will need to ingratiate themselves to the organization quickly and exhibit an understanding of the cultural elements from an IT perspective. Further, working with the product organization to find balance and consistency in delivery.

In the first 90 days, this person should expect to skillfully adapt to complex workflows, providing project Management directives to technical staff. As a Project Manager, this candidate will be able to improve team focus by prioritizing and driving work tasks to help keep balance within the team. They will work to make/identify improvements that will aid the team in standardizing workflows and best practices for tool usage within the organization.   • Delivers results for mid-size project initiatives within established timeframes and quality measures.
  • Utilizes strong project management skills and Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies to manage assigned projects.
  • Directs resources on assigned projects and ensures clarity of project roles and responsibilities.
  • Identifies and manages communication with the project stakeholders.
  • Consults with business leaders to translate a project idea into a defined project with goals, objectives and scope.
  • Identifies resources needed, negotiates with people managers as required to lead project teams, ensuring clarity of project roles and responsibilities, so that all project plans are completed within defined timeframes, meeting objectives and strategic goals.
  • Develops and implements communication and reporting mechanisms to manage issues, risks, and timely delivery of initiative results. Translates project goals and objectives into a defined future state and project success measures that can be understood by project stakeholders, project team and others.
  • Ensures business needs and objectives are effectively captured in functional and non-functional business requirements for a system, process, or workflow.
  • Oversees business requirements to meet expected business solutions and traces delivery of requirements through testing and final implementation, with mentoring by a more experienced Program Manager, as needed. Generally understands business requirement management and quality management in order to provide expected business solutions.
  • Manages project quality through activities such as conducting appropriate reviews, obtaining approvals, taking corrective action when necessary, with mentoring by a more experienced project manager, if applicable.
  • Ensures that project documentation is complete, current and archived appropriately.
  • Articulates project management best practices with peer group and others at Unum, as applicable.

    Leadership
  • Proactively establishes and maintains cooperative, productive partnerships on current projects and deliverables.
  • Promotes the benefits of change and act as a catalyst for change within the organization, as well as adapts to changes imposed by others.
  • Organizes and guides the activities of the project team. Prioritizes tasks to meet deliverables and commitments on time. Ensures that project member's time and experience is well utilized. Recommends alternatives/options to minimize any schedule delay.
  • Shares project experience/knowledge and mentors others to help build project management skills.

    Job Specifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Has 4+ years of experience with a focus in finance, project management, systems, or IT is preferred
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and understanding of Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies
  • Has strong knowledge of logical data model/management
  • Has strong understanding of Unum's products and businesses
  • Able to work effectively in a dynamic, rapidly changing business and technical environment
  • Project management (PMP) certification is preferred
  • Effectively uses technical project management tools
  • Has strong initiative and ability to set stretch goals
  • Strong ability to identify and apply different communication mediums based on content and audience at all levels (both internal and external to Unum) to achieve intended goal

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$80,600.00-$153,200.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including performance-based incentives, healthcare benefits, insurance benefits, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual plans.
