Overview

As a Sr PV Designer, you will support the Channel Partner organization by ensuring solar Proposals and Designs are aligned with company policies, customer preferences, as well as local, state, and national codes. This position includes use of site survey details and aerial imagery to create 3D models of homes and their surroundings using web-based software to simulate a customer’s solar design and compare it with what Channel Partners model to ensure acceptable alignment.

The Sr PV Designer is an advanced member of the Permit Design team, which is the main line of design support for the operations organization to successfully permit and install projects and oversee the quality assurance of our Channel Partners’ Designs

The Sr level of this team is expected to have commanding knowledge of design requirements in multiple markets and of settings of tools used to create proposal designs.  A Sr PV Designer would also be expected to use their advanced knowledge to establish audit criteria and standards for our Partners using a variety of SaaS Proposal and Design tools in the market.  

Essential Job Functions

• Follow design standards to ensure Partner solar designs enable installations that lead to high customer satisfaction.
• Use solar modeling software to model site conditions including roof plane dimensions, roof pitch, roof obstructions, trees, and other objects that affect the layout of solar panels on a roof and system production.
• Learn a variety of modeling softwares and techniques to evaluate Designs against determined PosiGen standards
• Adhere to PV system design criteria including electrical, equipment, and installation parameters while complying with local and national code requirements in project jurisdictions.
• Create, review, and modify PV system drawing sets in AutoCAD and custom software tools.
• Meet deadlines to complete design evaluations for photovoltaic projects within a fast-paced production based environment with fluctuations in work priorities depending on the needs of the business.
• Work with Channel Partner operations teams to promote efficient installs and to prevent customer cancellations and change orders.
• Maintain account files in Salesforce.
• Complete 120% of PV Designer expected volume while maintaining quality.
• Assist in developing and documenting industry best practices, standards, and guidelines.
• Demonstrate ethics and professionalism at all times.

Experience/Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Experience with designing and/or constructing solar electric systems
• Experience with solar production modeling software (Aurora, Solo, OpenSolar, etc.)
• Experience with AutoCad software or equivalent
• NABCEP (associate) certification, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
• Working knowledge of residential electrical and roofing standards
• Knowledge of National Electrical Code and local building codes is a plus
• Experience with Salesforce CRM software preferred
