Department Overview

Our Applied Technology organization puts some of Motorola Solutions' brightest minds on unique, highly challenging projects. Based on decades of experience with our customers, we apply leading-edge technologies to support security and safety throughout the world. We engineer our products from start to finish and manufacture them in-house. We are known for low volume and high capability with focused specialization in areas including software-defined radios, advanced antenna solutions, artificial intelligence and machine learning, cybersecurity, signals intelligence and more. Job Description

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations

• Collaborates with various functional groups, including, but not limited to, manufacturing engineering, production personnel, supply chain, and design engineering to develop and implement quality control policies, procedures, and improvements.

• Guide structured problem solving (e.g. 8D, 5-Whys) in manufacturing, design and other parts of the organization to ensure corrective action effectiveness

• Drive the use of appropriate Six Sigma tools and statistical techniques in the operations domain and other areas as needed.

• Assess customer and business impact resulting from product quality issues.

• Direct and participate in nonconformance investigations and ensure implementation and effectiveness of subsequent corrective and preventive actions

• Monitor and analyze quality performance using available software tools.

• Coach and provide guidance to other job functions in the application of workmanship requirements to meet contractual obligations.

• Ability to learn new technologies quickly and to discern their relevance, applicability, and usefulness.

• May conduct internal audits, including creating audit reports, closing out audit findings, and determining proper corrective and preventive actions.

• May perform other responsibilities within the quality function commensurate with individual skill set.

Specific Knowledge/Skills:

• Working knowledge of J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards.

• Knowledge of Electronic Assembly processes and equipment (SMT, THT, wires and harnesses).

• Proficiency in understanding and applying the 7 basic quality tools.

• Skilled in the application of statistical methods (e.g. hypothesis testing, ANOVA, design of experiments) to draw conclusions from raw data.

• Use software tools (e.g. Minitab, Excel) to apply statistical methods and identify root causes of defects.

• Ability to conduct data mining from various sources (e.g., databases, Excel files, text files) with tools such as Power Query.

• Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (e.g. ISO 9001, AS9100).

• Excellent analytical/problem solving skills.

• Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.

• Ability to motivate and influence others.

• ASQ certification (e.g. Quality Engineering, SSGB/SSBB) a plus

Basic Requirements

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field

• 5+ years of quality engineering experience

• Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain the necessary security clearance as required by government contract.
