Senior Quant Developer, ALM and Investment Strategy (Senior Associate)
Job Description
The ALM & Investment Strategy Team's mission at New York Life is to effectively partner with the business, finance, and asset management teams to research, develop, and implement Investment strategies that help meet business and financial objectives. These goals heavily depend on robust models and data.
Quant developer will work with members of the team to help with responsibilities over the company's quantitative finance modeling, and asset and derivatives income projections. Responsibilities will include quantitative model design, implementation, improvements, and ongoing production responsibilities. The role requires strong statistics, mathematics and financial knowledge, as well as strong programming skills. This role needs effective communication skills and close coordination with other members within the Asset Liability Management team, Enterprise Technology, and other business stakeholders.
This person will be part of the team that interacts closely with Finance, Actuarial, Risk management and Investments, as well as the Business Unit areas focusing on understanding and improving the quantitative modeling and investment strategy efforts.
This role offers interested candidates the opportunity to learn both traditional and innovative methods for ALM & investment strategy development and to work on challenges and solutions that dominate leading-edge ALM discussion today.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the quant developer supporting the team in building new capabilities and maintain existing code of our Asset Liability Modeling platform and its components
- Be part of the team that partners with sector specialists, investment accounting, asset data & research teams to expand modeling capabilities of the company, that includes a broad spectrum of the investment universe ranging from corporate bonds and structured products to alternative investment and derivatives. The role provides exposure to broad spectrum of asset and derivatives classes and quantitative finance modeling methodologies.
- Support the research and development (R&D) efforts focusing on new quantitative finance modeling techniques.
- Enhance the automation of the production processes, including generation of economic scenarios, asset and derivatives valuations while improving the current modeling and valuation processes.
Qualifications
- Excellent programming skills in one of the languages Python / MATLAB / R / C++ / VB.Net / C# is required.
- Familiarity with both relational and object databases is preferred. SQL/NoSQL.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud storage and computing services is preferred. (S3, Aurora, EC2, Lambda)
- Strong quantitative skills, with a master's degree in a technical field like Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Financial Engineering. Advanced graduate degree is preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience building, programming and implementing quantitative models.
- Excellent communication required and strong technical writing skills is preferred.
- Effective time and project management skills,strong team player.
