GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Senior Quantitative Investment Risk Analyst is a member of the Risk Management team responsible for developing analytical processes supporting investment risk measurement, aggregation of risk information and designing and delivering quantitative risk management reporting and analysis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with Head of Investment Risk to design and implement an investment risk management process for American Equity Life (AEL).
  • Develops dashboards for risk monitoring and designs and implements risk reports
  • Performs risk analysis and portfolio optimization for fixed income portfolios, scenario modeling, modeling multi-sector factor-based attribution and ad-hoc quantitative projects
  • Leads development, calibration, monitoring and usage of statistical risk models for PD, LGD and ED for investment portfolio.
  • Leads development of models and methodologies for use in CCAR, CECL, and RBC Stress Testing and Regulatory Capital
  • Utilizes Python/R/SQL for quantitative development of tools that aid in the generation and reporting of risk metrics
  • Assists the Head of Investment Risk and the Chief Risk Officer in supporting material needed for Risk Committee meetings.
  • Partners with the Information Technology and Operations teams and contribute to the development of the risk platform.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Bachelors in Financing Engineering or other quantitative discipline; Masters in Financial Engineering or quantitative discipline is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of major asset classes with focus on fixed income and credit markets
  • Minimum of five (5) years of investment and or investment risk related experience.
  • Strong capabilities with investment risk systems and demonstrated capability to work with and learn new analytical platforms.
  • Programming knowledge including Python and SQL

Preferred:

  • Experience with Blackrock Solutions Aladdin
  • Insurance Investment or Investment Risk Experience
  • Credit Risk and Quantitative Credit Experience
  • CLO, Private Credit Markets modeling experience
  • CFA charter holder

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent analytical skills; ability to independently research and analyze financial and other data.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents from regulatory agencies, and other members of the business community.
  • Intermediate or advanced Excel skills or other spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to effectively present information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply financial and statistical principles.
  • Strong mathematical skills and attention to numeric and other detail.
  • Adherence to defined risk reporting deadlines, multitasking priorities and workflow.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally on projects with the Investment, Accounting, Actuarial and Information Technology departments, and external partners such as software vendors, consultants, reinsurers, etc.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with employees, customers, and other outside third parties.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Occasional overnight travel as needed.
