ABOUT THE ROLE AND OUR TEAM:
The Knot is looking for a Sr. Relationships & Sex Editor to join its robust and dynamic team of digital and print-integrated editors. This role will shape the dialogue and discourse around all things relationships and sex during the dating, engaged and married journeys.
This editor will report to the Deputy Editor, working closely alongside fellow features teammates to break newsworthy commentary in the space. He/She/They will work closely with the content strategist and other writers. The editor will also work closely with the visuals department to depict key storytelling opportunities with a user-first mindset, thoughtfully approaching all aspects of packaging by bringing themes and concepts to life.
The Sr. Relationships & Sex Editor will be responsible for ideating, writing and producing content across broader thought leadership packages, topically unpacking relationship and sex content. The Sr. Relationships & Sex editor will be responsible for hiring freelance writers to employ and deploy content related to love, sexual wellness, singlehood, the dating journey, engagement dynamics, marriage, and general relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pitch, write and produce daily and longer lead pieces across print and digital platforms.
- Appear in press and video as the sex & relationships expert.
- Support department initiatives pertaining to exclusives and franchise opportunities.
- Assist in junior editor development through feedback, editing and mentorship
- Top edit and provide feedback to junior editors or freelance writers.
- Oversee execution of content packages and campaigns.
- Possibility of people management (i.e. onboarding and hiring 1-2 direct reports, as needed)
- Seek opportunities to work with external industry professionals and build sustained relationships; successful outcomes include speaking engagements, exclusives, assets for spreads and features, etc.
- Ownership of content series and campaigns, serving as the editorial DRI in cross-departmental initiatives.
- Serve as subject matter expert in sex and relationships topics, taking ownership as the relationships lead and content authority.
- Keen understanding of how decisions impact company and business needs
- Cover and report on relationship and sexual wellness trends for both the pre-engaged, engaged and post-engaged audiences.
- Attend market events related to content categories.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES HAVE:
- Superb writing and reporting skills, including experience writing for sensitive and high-touch topics.
- 8-10 years of professional experience writing for an online brand or digital publication.
- Able to take on larger content projects that are cross-collaborative and work cross-functionally with success and little oversight.
- Media trained and intermediate comfortability on camera with necessary prep work and advanced notice.
- Ability to think strategically and make business-first decisions.
- Takes initiative and identifies solutions.
- Dependable nature, whose workflow impacts the team in a positive way.
- Experience working in a team, as well as experience collaborating cross-functionally with other teams on projects and initiatives.
- An extreme attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to hitting deadlines, accuracy and professionalism.
- An understanding of basic SEO best practices and keyword targeting is a plus.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Creativity with a wealth of fun and new ideas.
- Mastery of using a CMS.
- Experience working cross-functionally with photo, design, video and social departments.
- Basic knowledge of Photoshop or other photo editing platforms.
- An instinct for relationship, dating and sexual wellness content, as well as broader features packages.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
- A love of love.
