Job Description: Senior Research Associate I – Antibody Discovery (Grade 25)

Gilead is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical needs. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world.

Specific Responsibilities:

The Antibody Discovery group is a specialized team within the Protein Therapeutics function that is responsible for the discovery of biologics for drug candidates and critical reagents. We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate I to join this team in a newly created position. The successful candidate will contribute to antibody discovery efforts as part of a cross-functional team specializing in the discovery and screening of novel biologic modalities in support of all therapeutic areas at Gilead.

Job Responsibilities:

In this laboratory-based role, the successful candidate will support efforts to generate novel antibody-based therapeutics. Ideally, the applicant has knowledge in immunology and antibody discovery. They should have experience in molecular biology techniques and knowledge of antibody structure, function, and basic characterization assays. Additional job requirements:

• Support antibody discovery projects by conducting antibody sequencing/cloning from single B-cell and hybridoma samples
• Conduct and analyze data from antibody screening and characterizations assays
• Analyze antibody sequences (Sanger and NGS)
• Present scientific results at functional team meetings and project team meetings
• Maintain familiarity with relevant scientific literature

Qualifications:

B.S. in biological sciences, preferably with at least 3 years of relevant hands-on lab experience

An ideal candidate will have experience in most of the following areas:

• Ability to learn effectively from training and work independently on assignments
• Experience in molecular biology techniques
• Knowledge of antibody discovery platforms (single B-cell, hybridoma, in vitro display)
• Good written and oral communication skills, organized to track multiple workflows
• Experience in antibody screening and characterization using biochemical assays and quantitative analysis of protein-protein binding interactions (e.g. ELISA, FACS, Octet) is a plus
• Mammalian cell culture experience is a plus
• Experience in flow cytometry is a plus

The salary range for this position is: $92,820.00 - $120,120.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
