Senior Risk Analyst

Marqeta is hiring for a Senior Technical Analyst to join the Risk Operations Team. The analyst is a US-based individual contributor that will be responsible for enabling the Transaction Monitoring team to reduce risk and financial loss to money laundering and fraud threat vectors via data analysis, collaboration and information sharing with client programs, partner banks and other internal Marqeta teams.

• Work with diverse internal and external teams to understand payment card programs, with a specific emphasis on fraud and money laundering concerns for unique market segments;
• Develop a deep understanding of the hundreds of data attributes available within Marqeta’s open API that may be considered during data analysis via standing rules and adhoc queries;
• Analyze transactional data derived during discovery to identify suspicious transactions, accounts, entities, and other indicators of abuse vectors;
• Efficiently research of publicly available data set that may yield additional context and expertly communicate the findings of analysis, research and information sharing formal and informal briefings and written reports;
• Monitor standing rule performance and perform testing to create or refine rules for programs that increase friction for cybercriminals without adversely affecting good customer experience;
• Provide subject matter expertise to identify and define business needs and requirements to support the development and implementation of future operational/technical risk solutions;
• Enable a delightful customer experience, ensuring service level agreements (SLA) are met or exceeded and escalations are placed on a critical path to solution quickly;
• Participate in project definition and idea generation, work on collaborative projects with partners across the globe with a focus on the Risk/Fraud mitigation;
• Effectively communicate and present findings to the management team to strengthen business decisions; and
• Attend regular professional engagement, training and functional business reviews.

• Three (3) years related industry experience employing complex data analysis and visualization tools that may include, but are not limited to, Structured Query Language (SQL), object-oriented programming (e.g. Java) , Python (or R), and Tableau (or Looker) to identify fraud and money laundering concerns;
• Advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or other quantitative field;
• Proven track record of applying analytical/statistical methods, rule writing, and testing to actualize real-world, data-driven problem solving;
• Demonstrated superior performance delivering favorable business outcomes and improving process improvement while working as part of cross-functional, virtual teams on projects having limited structure;
• Proficiency developing and maintaining documentation such as rules, operating procedures, and JIRA tickets that memorialize efforts;
• Highly effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills with all levels of the organization, as well as senior executives and customers;
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to build partnerships and alliances internally and with external partners at all levels of the organization
• Visa/MC Operational Experience or Settlement Experience; and
• CAMS, CFE, CFCS, or equivalent certification(s);

• Experience with ACH, Network, ATM and Echeck operation
• Prior experience with 3D Secure 
• Experience with risk detection platforms, such as FeatureSpace, Actimize, Falcon, or SaferPayments;
