Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Risk Engineer specializing in the Power Generation segment supporting our Energy Property business. The position reports directly to the VP Risk Control, Energy and Construction, North America however all Risk Engineers at BHSI are fully integrated with the Underwriting Team(s). Ideally, candidates would be located near our Houston office.
Duties & Responsibilities:Duties & Responsibilities:
- Primarily support the Energy Property underwriting teams in both the U.S. and Canada
- Conduct desktop level account analyses for the purposes of informing our underwriting teams so that we can underwrite risks profitably
- Attend occasional site (insurance) surveys for the purposes of improving our knowledge of the risk
- Support other lines of business (Builder's Risk, Casualty) as needed
- Supporting other regions (UK / Europe, Asia / Middle East, Australia) as needed
- Communicate effectively with other risk engineers, the Underwriting team, the Valuation team, and the Claims team
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively, professionally, and respectfully with customers when discussing findings, recommendations or seeking clarification while participating at site surveys, or customer meetings, while being cognizant that we are representing BHSI in the marketplace
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- 7 years (+) in both field and account level engineering related to the Power industry
- Extensive 'boots on the ground' experience at industrial power plants, including report writing
- High degree of familiarity with different types/modes of power generation
- Experience with multi-national accounts
- Knowledge of OEM particulars related to gas turbine technology
- Engaged with industry associations such as ASME, IEEE, EEI, EPRI.
- Strong knowledge of industrial fire protection systems
