Senior Robotics Software Engineer

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to join our Advanced Sensing, Data, and AI (“ASDAI”)  team in Waltham, MA. As a Senior Robotics Software Engineer, every day, you will use software to solve complex challenges in developing next-generation surgical robots.  You will enjoy working with a highly talented and diverse team of engineers to develop realistic simulations, advanced perception, reasoning, planning, and robotic control features for our robots.

We expect you to bring 5+ years of post-academic experience in the development and application of robotics software , 3+ years of post-academic experience if you have an advanced degree.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test key features for the simulation of robots and sensors.
• Take ownership of the simulation infrastructure features and collaborate with other teams to investigate best design approaches, prototype new technology, and evaluate technical and robustness feasibility.
• Contribute to the synthetic/real data infrastructure of our robot.
• Design, develop, and test key features for AI applications in robotics.
• Use iterative processes to continuously improve our code and infrastructure.
• Take a lead role in defining architecture, roadmap, and strategy for the team projects.
• Communicate investigation and evaluation results clearly and effectively.

About You

• A Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years,  or a Master's Degree and 3+ years, of post-academic experience in simulation, ROS, virtualization technologies, client-server, or web applications.
• Production experience with a robotic simulator (Gazebo Ignition or Drake).
• Production experience with ROS2, Docker containers, and document-oriented databases.
• Production experience  with modern object-oriented design, C++, and Python 3.
• Familiarity with AI/ML algorithms and development processes.
• Experience with motion controls.
• B.Sc. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or another Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience.
• Must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams.
