Job Description:

The Senior Scientist in Applied Sciences is responsible for the execution of projects in Analytical Chemistry to advance the capability of the MGS laboratory network, ensuring our access to high quality testing solutions. In addition, they leverage their expertise to support the business by providing consultancy on methodologies and labs to execute testing as well as performing research, writing position papers, and making presentations to advance Mars scientific interests.

What are we looking for?

Minimum Requirements

  • BS Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or other appropriate scientific field with lab experience required
  • Expert technical knowledge in of area of expertise Chemistry and how to apply it to analysis of raw materials and finished products, preferably in the food industry
  • Knowledge and experience in areas preparation, purification, separation and detection methods such as: SPE, GC, HPLC, IC, UV, FLD, ICP, MS, TOF, AA, Immunoassays (ELISA, LFIA), DNA/Protein extraction methods, PCR, qRT-PCR, Electrophoresis, DNA/protein visualization techniques. Knowledge on sequencing techniques is a plus.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience in project management
  • 15% Global Travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or other appropriate scientific field with lab experience required (MSc. preferred)
  • Awareness of ISO 17025 laboratory requirements, working experience

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Deliver high quality technical documentation to support their research projects, which may include: literature reviews, position papers, PowerPoint presentations, SOPs, test method transfer protocols, equipment requirements, system suitability checks, etc. to evidence the suitability of methodology for use
  • Develop and apply expertise across a range of analytical disciplines through research and developing external partner collaborations to provide technical governance and guidance for our testing programs
  • Apply scientific expertise to support the business during urgent issues to quickly bring a solution that provides clarity and a path back to normal business operations.
  • Plan and execute projects according to the MGS Labs project management process, including the execution of bench trials for both method development and method validation as needed.
  • Recommended and govern the Mars method table data in their area of expertise.
  • Define quality control and proficiency testing programs for methodologies in their area of expertise.
  • Maintain a high level of customer focus and ensure that projects are delivered on-plan, on-time, and on-budget.
  • Assess and share the key milestones of each project, including it KPIs achievement.
  • Maintains a good working knowledge of the state of the art in their specific scientific/technological discipline through monitoring literature, building external partnerships and conference/international meeting attendance.
  • Work closely with the Global Food Safety Center to ensure long term research is translated into routine chemical methods
  • Adhere to and contribute to continuous improvement of method validation protocols.
  • Provide support to regional labs for troubleshooting and problem solving by leveraging the capabilities of Internal and External Laboratories across the MGS Labs Network.
  • Proactively engage a culture of safe laboratory behaviors, role model best practices, adhere to safety procedures within the laboratory.
  • Collaborate with the regional laboratory teams and MGS Labs Applications Development Scientists on identifying opportunities for the continuous improvement of analytical chemistry methods.
  • Contribute to maintain the laboratory in a good shape, through the participation to equipment metrology program, preventative maintenance when insourced, 5S etc
