About This Role
We are looking for a Toxicologist to join the Discovery Toxicology Group reporting to the Head of Discovery Toxicology in the Nonclinical Safety Department. Responsibilities of this position include serving as the primary liaison to Drug Discovery project teams, developing safety testing strategies for discovery projects, designing / overseeing in vitro and in vivo toxicology studies and conducting risk assessments to enable project progress to key decision points and nomination of drug candidates into early clinical development. Discovery Toxicologists also design and implement mechanistic and investigative toxicology strategies to enable teams to dissect complex toxicological pathways to enable key decisions. Career development opportunities exist to also represent Nonclinical Safety on early development programs and on internal and external scientific working groups and committees.
What You’ll Do
- Provide subject matter expertise in drug discovery toxicology (testing strategy, result interpretation, risk assessment and recommendations)
- Present toxicology data and outcomes to peers and senior management
- Collaborate with cross functional teams in R&D and Manufacturing to serve as a nonclinical toxicologist for early, discovery programs
- Lead initiatives to advance and optimize safety testing strategies internally and externally
Who You Are
You are foremost a science-based individual able to integrate a variety of information to drive decision making in discovery programs. You are comfortable working in a highly dynamic environment with heavily matrixed teams
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or equivalent in Toxicology, Pharmacology, or closely related field; exceptional non-Ph.D.s considered
- Minimum of 3-6 years toxicology experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Up to 2 years postdoctoral research experience in a relevant field would be considered contributory to the duration of experience requirement.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in conducting both in vitro and in vivo toxicology studies
- Proven organization and time management skills, including working with external partners and CROs
- Good communications, presentation, and technical writing skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with multiple types of drug modalities desired, including small and large molecules, antisense oligonucleotide (ASO), and gene therapy
- DABT certification desired
