The Sr. Scientist I will work on designing and developing innovative new assay chemistries to support the development of novel molecular diagnostic tests for Cepheid. Scientists at the Bothell site in Washington, are a dynamic group pushing forward innovations related to sample prep chemistries, oligonucleotides, PCR primers and probes, and enzymes-a potent mix of all the critical components for developing new assay chemistries. The innovations we work on cover all aspects of assay chemistry performance. Yet significant enhancements for better performance, lower limit of detection, shorter time to result, and multiplexing will be developed by the person working in this role. This will be achieved while maintaining Cepheid's commitment to the highest quality and performance standards. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Invent new approaches to ultra-rapid sample preparation without compromising assay performance.
• Communicate results and conclusions, horizontally and vertically within the company, to aid in decision making in a fast-paced environment.
• Effectively leverage scientific literature, databases and patents to design new biochemical and analytical tools and other technologies to enable innovative approaches to improved or new nucleic acid detection technologies.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary teams and projects crossing multiple departments to optimize assay conditions to achieve stability, robustness, and performance.

The essential job requirements for this position include:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry or related field with 5+ years of relevant industrial or academic lab experience OR a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience or PhD with 0+ years of experience.
• Ability to Design and execute innovative approaches to set up working novel nucleic acid amplification chemistries, including but not limited to PCR/RT-PCR.
• Hands-on experience in optimization of formulations that impart stability and robustness of reagents targeted for fast nucleic acid amplification.
• In-depth knowledge of a broad range of molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid isolation and manipulation.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Working knowledge of DOE-based assay optimization is a plus.
• Proficiency with one or more common statistical/graphical analysis software (JMP, MiniTab) is ideal.
• Working knowledge of method validations and method transfers.
• Effectively leverage scientific literature and databases to design new biochemical and analytical tools and other technologies to enable innovative and improved nucleic acid detection technologies.

The salary range for this role is $87,000 to $120,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
