Senior Scientist - Quantum Applications and Solutions

We’re looking for a Senior Scientist - Quantum Applications and Solutions. You’ll be a core team member on the Applications team, a talented group of scientists and engineers who are committed to delivering the world’s best quantum solutions, on the world’s best quantum computers, to solve the world’s most complex problems. 

Responsibilities: 

• Identifying and developing quantum algorithms that promise quantum advantages in practice and at scale
• Developing quantum circuits that implement quantum algorithms in close collaboration with quantum compiler experts and quantum system experts
• Communicating and collaborating with external partners of IonQ to help determine and solve problems of interest that leverage IonQ’s quantum computers
• Contributing to software toolchains that help grow IonQ’s quantum computer user base
• Accommodate occasional travel to headquarters and customer sites and occasional evening/off-hours meetings (need-basis)

You’d be a good fit with: 

• Advanced degree in Physics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research or relevant field, or equivalent experience
• Proven communication skills and quick learning capability
• Success working collaboratively in a team environment
• Understanding of key mathematical techniques used in quantum computing - linear algebra, matrix decompositions, probability theory, symmetry, computational complexity analysis - including the ability to explain cases where quantum algorithms can show advantage over classical methods, and why
• Demonstrated experience developing and optimizing algorithms to increase performance e.g. time-to-solution, fidelity, accuracy
• Demonstrated experience implementing quantum algorithms; bonus points for applying quantum solutions to real-life, business-relevant problems
• Working knowledge of Python and quantum frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, or similar

You’d be a great fit with: 

• Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications, patents, conference presentations
• Working knowledge of HPC, GPGPU and/or cloud computing environments
• Working knowledge of software development practices
• Success working directly with clients and customers delivering marketable applications and solutions and/or experience developing commercial software
• Demonstrated experience in quantum information science
• Subject matter expertise in an applications area such as finance, pharma/healthcare, chemistry, computer vision, operations research
