How you’ll make an impact:

Independently lead the Innovation team to drive multiple projects, collaborate with other CPD group leads to manage CPD common technical/operational issues, resource prioritization, and staff career development. This is a chance to bring your in-depth T cell biology and process development experience as well as leadership acumen to drive scientific advancements in the T cell therapy process development field. 


About the team:

2seventy bio’s Cellular Process Development (CPD) team is a group in the Process and Analytical Development Department within Technical Development, Supply and Quality organization developing and characterizing processes to manufacture high-quality T cell therapies as drug products for our patients. We develop and characterize the cell therapy manufacturing platforms and chaperone them from pre-clinical to commercial manufacturing phases in collaboration with other teams across Process and Analytical Development, Manufacturing, Quality and Research. How you’ll spend your time:

·       This is a leadership role!

·       Drive the next-generation manufacturing platform development for cell therapy and implementing advanced T cell culture technologies

·       Represent 2seventy bio and/or CPD group to lead technical discussions and foster decision-makings and collaborations with internal cross-functional teams or external partners

·       Manage a team of 4-6 Associate Scientists to Scientists in delivering the innovation projects and/or pipeline programs

·       Independently designing and managing laboratory experiments involving primary human immune cell isolation (PBMCs and T cells), genetic modification, T cell expansion, and cryopreservation

·       Design and perform analytical testing (e.g., multi color flow cytometry panels) to characterize T cell drug products and process performance

·       Apply statistical and data visualization techniques to interpret and report scientific data

·       Perform administrative duties including personnel and lab operations scheduling

·       Mentor junior scientists in both scientific applications and career development

·       Author, review, and maintain accurate and up to date records including experimental databases, production batch records, laboratory notebooks, quality facing reports, technology transfer documentation, and regulatory documentation

·       Hands-on lab-based position (50%) requiring a flexible schedule based on experimental work (some weekend work may be required depending on experiments occurring over >5 days).


Who you are and what you’ve accomplished:

·       MS or PhD in biomedical/biological engineering, chemical engineering, cell biology, immunology, or related discipline with 3-6 (PhD) or 7-10 (MS) years of industry experience, preferably in the cell therapy field

·       Experienced with novel and advanced T cell manufacturing technologies, such as Prodigy, is highly desirable

·       Prior managerial experience or cross-functional leadership experience is required

·       Direct experience with mammalian cell culture, preferably in T-flasks, static expansion bags, stirred tank reactors, and/or rocking bioreactor platforms, with a strong understanding of general laboratory techniques related to tissue culture and bioprocessing

·       Direct experience with biological assays such as via flow cytometry

·       Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills; Capable of multi-tasking and prioritization under shifting business needs and in highly matrixed teams

·       Knowledge of statistical analysis, data visualization, and design of experiments (DoE); Preferred experience in JMP and Prism software

·       Willingness to work with lentiviral vector and human biological samples such as primary human cells

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, sufficient to author, review, revise, and present scientific data and/or reports

·       Attention to detail, demand for high-quality work, and sense of passion and urgency to achieve goals and improve the lives of patients

·       Looking to solve difficult, messy problems like developing cell therapies for cancer—it’s hard!

·       Ability to communicate above and below level in a way that fosters relationship building, including cross-functional teams, and external relationships with vendors

·       Successfully worked in a collaborative team environment where results are achieved through influence and incorporating multiple points of view

·       Excellent attention to detail, project and time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities
