Senior Scrum Lead
Job Description
Our goal is to continuously improve our ways of working, as we deliver fantastic products and features to Columbia Sportswear Company customers. The Scrum Master is a key member of the Columbia Digital Technology (CDT) organization, as they work with one or more Product Owners to organize, lead, and empower teams on their agile journey. Successful candidates will have deep understanding of agile frameworks and practices, and experience coaching and leading agile teams in a variety of contexts, including scrum and Kanban.
The most critical part of this role is working effectively with people. Communication, organization, and listening skills are required for scrum masters to be good servant leaders. It's not just about scheduling the ceremonies - it's making the ceremonies worthwhile by helping the team understand and prepare for them.
Successful scrum masters put people first and help create a culture of respect, trust, transparency, commitment, daring, and learning.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Ceremonies and Delivery : For one or more teams working in moderately complex to complex technology environments . Schedules, facilitates , and tracks effectiveness of useful agile ceremonies, including Refinement, Sprint Planning, Stand Ups, Demos, Sprint or PI Reviews, and Retrospectives. Assist Product Owner(s) with backlog management. Coach team on story estimation and work definition by encouraging small, iterative units of work and value delivery. Support the team's successful completion of sprint commitments by tracking daily progress, quickly identifying impediments, and escalati ng issues as needed.
- Tracking/Reporting : Uses in - tool reporting capabilities to help the team assess its performance and areas where they can be more effective . Introduces new metrics and analysis, when needed, to ensure continuous improv ement.
- Agile Practices : Guides up to 2 agile teams in their agile execution . Capable of supporting teams that are just forming, as they establish their new agile operating model. Encourages understanding and adoption o f agile practices, in alignment with Columbia's evolving agile operating model . Shares practices, techniques, and approaches that can help the team explore new ways of working . Model , advocate for , and coach agile values and principles.
- Coaching and Culture : Nurtures team cohesion , empowerment, and ownership of commitments. Sets teams up for success by illustrating effective agile behavior and practices. Curates useful information about agile and the team, to help them be accountable to their agreements, and to facilitate the onboarding of new members . Good listener who helps create a culture of openness , transparency, support, and encouragement.
YOU ARE

YOU HAVE
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience: 5-8 years professional experience with strong competency in common agile tools , practices , and frameworks
- Ability to effectively serve 2 agile teams
- A proven record of successfully launching and supporting effective agile teams
- Relevant ce rtification s ( e.g., CSM, PSM, CSP , SPC )
- Project Management experience or certification preferred
- SDLC: Familiarity with several software development lifecycles
Experience with the following areas / tools:
- Jira & Confluence, or other agile work management tools
- Scrum, Kanban, SAFe , and other agile frameworks
- Leading / participating in Communities of Practice, Centers of Excellence, or other groups focused on improving and optimizing agile work
- Encouraging a growth mindset through consistent, positive interactions
