Senior Security Engineer

Marqeta is growing a Security Engineering team intending to set a new industry standard for security in the payments space. As part of the team, you will support secure product development for the world’s first modern card issuing platform. 

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (backend) interested in joining our Security Platform team in building and maintaining a secure, scalable, easy-to-use platform for secure functionality utilizing Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) and cryptography. You will work directly with other engineering teams to integrate your build services and tools. Your projects will cross multiple technology stacks and services, including various languages and frameworks.

• Build scalable platform services and libraries focused on utilizing Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) for secure operations
• Develop services and libraries focused on security primitives and cryptography
• Maintain and manage our HSMs
• Apply engineering principles from your professional experience when building the best software possible for the security organization as a whole

• You have at least 5+ years of experience as an engineer with a Bachelor’s degree; or 2 years of experience with an advanced degree. Instead of a degree, 8+ years of relevant experience may suffice.
• Experience designing, developing, and shipping large-scale products or services in Java, Go, Rust, or Python; however, we welcome experience in other programming languages.
• Experience with AWS cloud services or other cloud technologies such as Azure or GCP
• A strong passion for writing code with high quality and test coverage

• Prior experience with HSMs or services utilizing HSMs
• Previous experience with Systems Administration in Linux
• Prior experience in additional languages such as C, C++, or Ruby
• Experience in Payments or Financial Services
• Experience with Kubernetes or related containerization technologies
• Experience with IaaC tooling incl but not limited to Terraform or Helm
