About the team

The Data Platform team supercharges the acquisition storage preparation delivery and consumption of data at Wealthsimple.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

• Scope design and build services tools and infrastructure in our data platform across a variety of domains and tech stacks from our data warehouse to orchestration transformation BI data discovery or more

• Become the technical leader and owner for a given domain within our data platform helping set the vision and lead development efforts

• Collaborate with data scientists software developers and other stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions

• Teach and learn from your teammates and have opportunities to be a coach and mentor to others. We believe in the power of collective knowledge and the importance of fostering a culture of continuous learning and mutual success

• Be an advocate and educator for best practices in data for both the direction of our platform and for the users of our platform

We are looking for someone who:

• Has knowledge of and experience working with traditional tools/practices/patterns in data platform engineering such as data warehousing orchestration transformation BI etc

• Is a self starter who can independently identify problem spaces prioritize them break down into potential solutions evaluate those solutions and then execute on them

• Has experience practicing software engineering best practices such as test driven development continuous integration/deployment etc

• Has exceptional communication skills adept at liaising between technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Has the skills to dive into a multitude of code bases across different languages and domains spanning front-end to back-end to infrastructure

Nice to have:

• Proficiency with Python and SQL

• Experience with managing and developing data warehouse/lakehouse tools and tech and such as Redshift Snowflake Trino Iceberg etc

• Experience with data catalogue or metadata store tooling such as DataHub OpenMetadata etc

• Experience working with Airflow or Temporal or other orchestration tooling such as Dagster or Prefect

• Experience with data transformation tooling such as DBT Spark etc

• Experience working with BI tools such as Superset Mode Sisense Tableau etc

• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud service providers ideally AWS data tooling such as Redshift S3 RDS etc

• Experience working with data in secure and regulated environments (SOC1/2 PCI-DSS etc..)
