Job Description

The Senior Software Development Engineer in Test will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing and performing test automation solutions for Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) Broadband products. Develop test automation solutions, using several modern frameworks and environments and using modern broadband product test approaches, deliver high-reliability, cost-effective solutions to be used by QA test, development and operations partners; all to ensure that test programs are delivered at high quality, on-schedule, on-budget and successfully deployed to the field. Assists in managing project teams, developing test strategies, and designing quality assurance practices. Able to adapt automation solutions to the fast-paced DevOps paradigm, quickly tailoring solutions to help identify, reproduce, and triage lab/field defects. Able to establish and maintain automation test environments. Able to establish and maintain automation development standards, procedures and methods to enable seamless and efficient deployment of automated test cases into the Dev/QA test environment. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment. May lead teams or projects and shares expertise.

Core Responsibilities

  • Write and edit complex, automated test code, using the same standards as a Software Engineer, that allows for repeatable, reliable testing solutions to test the wide functionality of products and software in accordance with specifications and technical requirements, maintaining automation codebase in a version control system (GIT, SVN). This may include creating complex SQL queries for validation of databases and writing SOAP and RESTful API automated scripts.
  • Build new tools to assist in faster test automation and functional testing efforts and innovate on existing automation processes.
  • Serve as a guide and mentor for junior-level engineers. Provides technical leadership and consultation with regards to practices, procedures and techniques.
  • Review project progress, evaluates results and recommends corrections in technical applications and analysis to executive teams.
  • Perform code reviews of automation scripts and front-end codebases.
  • Work closely with Test Engineers and Development teams to build test script hooks that help in earlier and easier testing.
  • Analyze broken test cases and diagnose and repair to working order.
  • Diagnose and repair complex bugs within production code.
  • Drive scrum meetings as Scrum Master, perform backlog grooming and sprint planning.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Develop, test and deploy reliable, efficient and cost-effective test automation solutions and provide support to QA/Dev/Ops uses of automation solutions
  • Create test plans and conduct test plan reviews
  • Create automated test scripts from business functional requirements and manual test cases.
  • Work with Product and Development owners in defining the feature user story requirements and provide direction on automation feasibility and support related prototyping and scripting during feature development phase
  • Produces specifications for validity in overall automation design, operation and test coverage
  • Lead in the identification and resolution of problems and defects; able to initiate investigation processes, identifies and reproduces bugs or defects and drives issues and improvements to resolution.
  • Reviews project progress, evaluates results and recommends corrections in technical applications and analysis.
  • Serves as a guide and mentor for junior-level QA and automation development engineers; provides technical leadership and consultation with regards to practices, procedures and techniques
  • Works with technology partner/vendor teams to solve problems
  • Able to assist with project budget, scheduling and estimating
  • Lead in defining and implementing continuous improvement process initiatives
  • Drive organization wide Quality Process improvements in coordination with other Quality Leads
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Technology Snapshot:

  • Dashboard and Reporting using tools like ELK, Grafana and Tableau.
  • Tools and technologies for DevOps such as Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Ansible.
  • Experience with technologies used to develop and support automated testing including JAVA, Spring Framework, Tomcat, Python, Jenkins, Concourse, GIT.
