Position Purpose

The Senior Software Engineer’s primary job function is to build new features, maintain existing features, and make improvements to the STM sites and/or hotel sales product. This person will develop a deep knowledge of our existing systems and propose improvements or alternatives that streamline our techstack, modernizing it and making it easier to maintain. 

Role & Responsibility

  • Work with Product to prioritize new features, performance improvements, maintenance, and other technical work on our STM sites
  • Contribute to writing and grooming of tickets on the backlog to prepare those tickets to be prioritized and scheduled in a sprint
  • Maintain and develop high performance and scalable features for the STM sites and email sending platform. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other engineers to plan, build, iterate, and ship new features to advance SmarterTravel in line with overall business objectives.
  • Able to handle the entire feature lifecycle within three months, including requirements gathering, implementation, testing, deployment and ensuring business goal achievement
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and establish a firm understanding of the business objectives driving development efforts
  • Proactively and consistently communicate with stakeholders.
  • Support the legacy content sites’ systems and collaborate with DevOps/Infrastructure engineers on problem solving, infrastructure/architecture improvements, etc
  • Implement well-defined features with good test coverage and peer reviews.
  • Strike a balance between pragmatic, timely short-term solutions and technical debt avoidance.
  • Participate in an environment that fosters innovative solutions, rapid development cycles, and open communication.

Education/Experience

  • A./B.S. in Computer Science, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience, especially in full-stack web development.
  • Understanding of modern microservices infrastructure.
  • Strong written/verbal technical communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for learning new things, problem solving, and developing quality software.
  • Experience with technologies commonly used in our environment is a plus, but not strictly required, e.g. Python, JavaScript, AWS, Redis, PostgreSQL, GitHub.
