Senior Software Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will support Slingshot’s efforts to accelerate the security, safety, and sustainability of space by playing a key role in the development and maturation of space surveillance and tracking technologies including those that power the Slingshot Global Sensor Network and other ground- and space-based sensor systems.

• Execute all position responsibilities in alignment with Slingshot’s core values, mission, and purpose
• Utilize expertise and ideas to help shape the direction of a dynamic, mission-oriented, customer-driven, aerospace application development team
• Build high-performance back-end software systems and innovative front-end GUIs through collaboration with fellow engineers and scientists
• Help architect and implement cutting-edge software systems running on cloud platforms using industry best practices
• Engage with customers to understand their needs and to ensure successful outcomes for their missions.
• Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues, so they understand what you're doing and why.

• Must be eligible for U.S. Government security clearances, requiring U.S. citizenship

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field, with a record of academic excellence
• 8+ years of work experience in the software engineering field, including demonstrated experience with:
  • Software development using multiple languages, such as Python and C/C++
  • Development on multiple operating systems, such as Linux and Windows
  • API development and familiarity with network protocols
  • Database-backed systems and architectures
  • Source control management tools such as Git
• Familiarity with one or more of the following:
  • Sprint-based development and use of DevOps and mentality
  • Cloud computing architectures and services from vendors such as AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • NoSQL and SQL database and data technologies, such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, big data, and machine learning
  • Web development and technologies such as AngularJS, Node.js, JavaScript, Python Dash, and full-stack web development
• Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to convey salient details about advanced technology in a compelling manner to both experts and non-experts alike

• Early-stage startup experience in the aerospace industry
• Experience or a keen interest in learning about space surveillance and tracking
• Experience or a keen interest in learning about optical sensor systems
