Senior Software Engineer - API Services
NOTE: You must currently reside within a commutable distance to one of Fastly's US offices to be considered for this position.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with experience developing highly-available, scalable, reliable and cloud-native software systems. The API Services team is responsible for evolving and supporting Fastly’s APIs by developing frameworks, standards and tools that elevate our resilience, scalability and availability. As a Senior Software Engineer you will own the development for key business initiatives focused on providing a delightful experience to internal and external API customers. As a distributed team, we employ a variety of styles to get our work done. We put a high value on working collaboratively, at times asynchronously, while also utilizing remote pairing and code/design walkthroughs.
Work Location(s) & Travel Requirements:
This hybrid position will be based out of one of Fastly’s US office locations - New York, NY; Denver, CO; San Francisco, CA; or Los Angeles, CA. Fastly's hybrid model allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.
This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.
What You'll Do
- Contribute to the patterns and design of systems that have a direct impact on how internal and external customers consume Fastly’s APIs
- Write code in Go
- Work with container orchestration systems like Kubernetes
- Perform cloud-native infrastructure changes and development
- Interact with several teams within the organization
- Collaborate with your teammates through code,design reviews and make data-driven decisions
- Support and promote best practices and automation for systems and processes within Fastly’s Control Plane
- Participate in on-call rotation
- Contribute to Fastly’s core infrastructure and platform needs
Work Hours:
- This position will require you to be available during core business hours.
- Occasional night and weekend work will be required as needed for on-call support rotation
What We're Looking For
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience building and operating highly available, reliable, distributed, cloud-native systems
- Hands-on experience developing applications in Go
- Experience with infrastructure as a code (e.g., Terraform, etc.)
- Strong understanding of service-oriented architectures, microservices, and design patterns
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A great teammate: communicative, collaborative, empathetic
- You have experience working with teams distributed across different time zones
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working or supporting API Gateways
- Experience supporting SLIs and SLOs
- Experience working with metric collection systems such as Prometheus, etc.
- Experience implementing caching mechanisms
Salary
The estimated salary range for this position is $155,370 to $194,210.
Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
