We are searching for software engineers to join our Consumer Engineering Team which is responsible for developing all consumer-facing technologies at PayPal. You will be collaborating with functional teams and influencing product direction.

Your Way To Impact

As a Senior Software Engineer for Venmo Payments Engineering you will act as a senior developer for the Payments Platform Engineering team. You will have the opportunity to work on one of the biggest payments platforms that caters to 60 million active users and had a transaction volume of 159 billion dollars in 2020 alone. And we have a YoY growth rate of 60% which will be keeping us busy for years to come. Given all these fun challenges, we are a fast-paced organization going through rapid growth that is solving technical challenges at exponential scale. As an organization, we have a strong culture of committing to goals and delivering on timelines and supporting each other's growth.

We are looking for technologists with the highest levels of technical talent, programming skills, attention to performance and scalability, communication skills and a keen desire to deeply understand our product.

Your Day To Day

• Design, estimate and implement new and refactored software services on the platform securely, reliably and at scale. Take ownership for quality of design and implementation of software components
• Help break down monolithic backend systems down to distributed scalable, resilient services/systems.
• Help scale our distributed services architecture to support growth while maintaining performance and reliability
• Collaborate with other engineers in software design and development best practices to significantly drive faster iteration and experimentation
• Interface with the product team and other functional teams to deliver new features and services against the product roadmap.

What Do You Need To Bring

• Experience in all phases of enterprise software design, development and testing
• Highly-skilled with one object-oriented/object function scripting language: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
• Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL data stores, caching solutions (e.g. Redis, ElastiCache, Hazelcast) and messaging/queuing protocols/systems such as SQS/Kafka/RabbitMQ/Pulsar
• Experience with distributed services and backend systems
• Experience with building services on the public cloud - AWS, GCP, Azure
• Experience working with fault-tolerant and scalable distributed services and systems
• Application security consciousness
