About the Role:  

Our Core Imagery team processes vast quantities of satellite image data into beautiful, visual products that provide scientifically useful analytics and actionable information. The group is responsible for taking millions of images a day from downlink to customer workflows. The work of the Core Imagery team is performed at scale and affects millions of images and terabytes of data. There is much work to be done and this would be a great experience for an engineer who has some geospatial experience but is also not afraid to get their hands dirty in infrastructure.

Impact You’ll Own:

• Increase reliability and availability of core imagery data pipeline
• Bolster core imagery data pipeline monitoring & tracing capabilities
• Improve the ability of the team to respond to production on-call incidents
• Author runbooks, configure dashboards, automate alerts, and streamline processes
• Participate in team on-call rotation to support production services
• Keep core imagery data pipeline running on up to date software and services

What You Bring:

• Experience with linux package management
• Experience building workflows with  Jenkins, GitLab Runners or similar
• Experience developing and deploying code as Docker containers into a Kubernetes cluster at scale with cloud computing resources (e.g. AWS or GCP)
• Experience writing production code in Python

• Knowledge of open-source GIS tools
• Knowledge of how to scale code with cloud computing resources, e.g. AWS or GCP
