Senior Software Engineer (C++)

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and implementing critical software systems which cover the entire range of the printing process, from geometry preprocessing to machine instruction sets to sensor data pipelines. Ultimately, your solutions will enable the first production scale, high quality, and fully automated metal 3D printing factory. As a crucial member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for driving the pace of innovation, maximizing development speed, and maintaining a standard of excellence within the entire engineering team.

3D printing experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving hard problems and creating amazing technology!

Responsibilities:

• Architect state-of-the art software for an advanced production-scale metal 3D printing system.
• Develop the machine instruction interface to the 3D printing system hardware.
• Design and develop an automated preprocessing pipeline from CAD geometry import to generation of machine instructions.
• Develop software to monitor sensor data, perform calibrations, log quality data, and keep track of the health of the printing system over its lifetime.
• Create software for collection and analysis of print process data.
• Develop software required to implement production automation solutions.
• Develop, unit test, and deploy functional, scalable, robust, and maintainable software.
• Integrate third-party software packages into proprietary software.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional experience in software development.
• Proficiency writing production code in C++.
• Extensive background in object-oriented programming and design.
• Able to provide legal proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States, which applies to U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens alike.  [Freeform does not currently sponsor H1-B visa petitions.]

Preferred Skills Experience:

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field.
• Experience with computer vision, image processing, and/or heterogeneous computing systems
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full software development lifecycle, from concept, detailed architectural design, implementation, and testing to documentation, delivery, and maintenance.
• Excellent knowledge of OS coding techniques, IP protocols, interfaces, and hardware subsystems.
• Proficient in developing and deploying multi-threaded applications.
• Proficient with software configuration management tools.
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery CI/CD and modern DevOps strategies.
• Experience working with both Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, or Julia is a plus.
• Experience with big data warehousing solutions and cloud computing is a plus.
• Creative thinker able to apply first-principles reasoning to solve complex problems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
