Senior Software Engineer, Collaboration

We are looking to hire an experienced senior software engineer to help design and develop Upwork's next generation messaging and notification platforms. Our collaboration platforms are at the core of Upwork's working model. You should be able to understand systems at scale, utilize modern infrastructure and best practices, and translate business requirements into a performant platform. Bring your passion for software excellence and mentor, guide, and train junior engineers.
Your responsibilities:

• Contribute to the architecture and design of our messaging and notification platforms (full stack).
• Designing, coding, and debugging software.
• Designing for scale and performance, working with other engineers and architects across the organization.
• Developing and providing training to other engineers, including verbal and written.
• Recommending new technologies that can help increase productivity.
• Investigating software-related complaints and making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal software performance.
• Regularly attending team meetings to discuss projects, brainstorm ideas, and put forward solutions to any issues.

What it takes to catch our eye:

• Bachelor's degree in computer engineering/computer science or related field.
• Strong experience in messaging and real time communication systems.
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven experience in software development methodologies.
• Proven experience building complex web systems.
• The ability to multi-task and execute across multiple programs.

The annual base salary for this position in California and Washington ranges from $136,000.00 - $235,000.00. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position in California and Washington, and individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.
