Senior Software Engineer (Fullstack) – ZMS Consumer Experience (All Genders)

THE ROLE & THE TEAM

Our teams in ZMS own the platform which enables Zalando partners to run onsite advertising campaigns on the Zalando web and mobile apps. Our solutions help fashion brands to reach Zalando customers via authentic content, tell their story, provide inspiration and drive engagement. Learn more about our tech teams here. 

As a Senior Software Engineer (Full-stack) in the ZMS Consumer Experience team, you will develop solutions and create experiences for hundreds of partners and internal users and millions of Zalando customers, including customer-facing advertising formats featured on Zalando home and catalog premises, landing page experiences for brand storytelling, as well as partner-facing content and media management workflows. 

You will be working alongside a cross-functional team and collaborate closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Full-Stack Engineers, Data and Product Analysts, all collaborating to drive innovation and success.

This is a full-stack role in the real sense, where the primary focus is on the backend, but there will be many instances where certain projects require pure frontend skills. Therefore, experience on both the backend and frontend are necessary to be successful in this role (think of it as a 60%-40% split backend to frontend).

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

On the backend, you have:

• 6+ years of experience in building full-stack web applications (ideally using a Node.js and TypeScript tech stack)

• Experience with RDMS, relational data modeling and data persistence techniques

• Good knowledge of SQL

• Experience to evaluate, implement, and optimize platform performance in terms of throughput, read-latency, scalability, and reliability.

• Knowledge of DevOps best practices, setting up CI/CD pipelines, observability, experience with Docker, Kubernetes, common AWS services (Lambda, S3, EC2, ElastiCache)

On the frontend you have:

• A solid understanding of core web and browser concepts, semantic HTML, and CSS

• Professional experience with React and its ecosystem

On the softskills you are:

• Excellent communicator, with demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely tackle complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational topics, and tailor your message to stakeholders with different seniority levels and backgrounds 

• Able to to breakdown a large problem into smaller action points and propose iterative solutions, ensuring delivery of customer value at every stage

• Striving for simplicity and avoiding unnecessary complexity

• Mentor for Junior and Intermediate Engineers to help them grow in their technical responsibilities and remove blockers.

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience with backend languages such as Java or Python

• Experience with RDMS, relational data modeling and data persistence techniques, knowledge of SQL

• DevOps best practices, setting up CI/CD pipelines, experience with Docker, Kubernetes, common AWS services (Lambda, S3, EC2, ElastiCache)

• Experience with GraphQL

• Good understanding of visual, unit and E2E testing

• Exposure to Data Engineering concepts
