Job Description

Join Tubi (www.tubi.tv), a division of FOX Technology, a premium streaming service leading the charge in making entertainment accessible to all. Headquartered in San Francisco, Tubi is an ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) service with movies and television shows. With over 40,000 titles from every major Hollywood studio, Tubi gives fans of movies and television shows an easy way to discover new content that is available completely free. Tubi's library has something for every member of our diverse audience, and we're committed to building a workforce that reflects that diversity. We're looking for great people who are creative thinkers, self-motivators, and impact-makers looking to help shape the future of streaming. Our services are currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our team, building backend services in the ad tech space to help acquire users and fuel Tubi’s growth, thus having a direct impact on the business. We are a recently-formed and growing team, so you can expect lots of opportunities to stretch your wings. You'll write code, and you'll also interact with people across the organization, be it design reviews, requirements gathering, brown bag lunches, or just one-on-one to understand the other person's context. Your most important context will be the Team, so you'll also think about ways to help us grow and be greater than the sum of the parts. We embrace the 80/20 Rule, so you'll spend some of your time thinking about what the elegant and beautiful solution could be, and then break it down such that the Team can deliver maximum impact over the long term.

Responsibilities:

  • Given a set of functional and non-functional requirements for a medium sized project, build and own (with the Team) all aspects of the solution: design, coding, testing, deployment, telemetry, and on-call ... from Proof-Of-Concept to Minimal Viable Product and beyond
  • Be the expert in the room. That does not mean you have the answer at your fingertips, but it does mean you can research and analyze information to arrive at the answer. The most important aspect will be to understand and communicate the why and the pros and cons of each alternative
  • Engage with people across the organization to understand their domain, gather requirements, and architect a solution
  • Write high quality code (we use Scala and Akka) to build scalable and highly performant services

Your Background:

  • Bachelor's degree (or above) from an accredited university, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of industry experience building reliable production backend applications across the full software development life cycle
  • Strong understanding of the JVM and either a strong understanding of Scala, or a strong desire to work with Scala
  • Comfortable with and willing to pick up new domains
  • Write high quality code (maintainable, embracing simplicity)
  • Strong understanding of web-based applications using HTTP and/or gRPC
  • Strong understanding of Concurrency
  • Good understanding of SQL and noSQL
  • Solving problems at scale
  • Data driven

Bonus Points:

Experience with:

  • Ad tech / mar-tech / growth tech domain
  • Akka
  • Cross-functional teams
  • Distributed systems
  • Functional programming
  • Kubernetes
  • Linux
  • Mobile ecosystem
  • Reactive Systems
  • Spark
