Senior Software Engineer, Identity Engineering

About the Role

We are looking for a senior software engineer to join our Identity Engineering team. This team enables security, authentication for all Gusto user base including all personas. Gusto user base is now close to 2M, doubled in the past year, so we are growing rapidly. The team owns login, 2FA, permissions, Identity risk analysis, etc. We support around 400K logins/day. We are a data driven team with focus on realtime and batched metrics for operational alerts and business insights respectively. Identity team has a key role to play wrt Gusto`s vision to become the number one small business people platform in the country. 

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

• Bolster security in core systems such as authentication, authorization, sensitive data storage, API design, and more.
• Build software to keep our customers and company safe and secure.
• Solve some of the hardest technical problems out there in very complex domains with a security mindset
• Work on impactful engineering problems across Gusto.
• Maintain high uptime for core services.
• Provide leadership in promoting security and software engineering excellence.

Here’s what we're looking for:

• 8+ years of experience building software.
• Experience building high-availability distributed systems and services.
• Experience with managing AWS cloud infrastructure (EC2, RDS, S3, VPCs)
• Experience with and understanding of MFA, OAUTH2, SSO, SAML, OIDC is a plus
• Experience with Java with a desire to learn Ruby/Rails.
• We mainly use Ruby, Java, and JavaScript/Typescript for the front end.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $180,000/yr to $240,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $230,000 /yr to $270,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
