Senior Software Engineer II, Full Stack/Back End - Messaging (Remote Eligible)

The Conversations feature in Smartsheet is a fantastic way to collaborate with others seamlessly. You can easily comment on the work at hand, follow up with others, and even add new people to the conversation. Plus, you can choose to receive notifications or subscribe for updates, so you never miss a beat. The team is working on redesigning this feature to make it even more flexible and adaptable to other parts of Smartsheet. It is a full-stack engineering opportunity, with front-end, back-end, and exclusive datastore components, as well as integrations with several other services.

We are looking for a full-stack software developer with a back-end focus to build the next-generation conversations in Smartsheet. You'll mentor junior engineers, and work closely with UX designers and product managers. We value product-oriented engineers who can own, architect, and implement features from start to finish. Our customers love our product and our engineers deliver the quality expected of the Smartsheet team.

This position will report to Senior Manager, Engineering and can be based remotely from anywhere within the United States where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

You Will:

• Build scalable backend services for the next generation of applications at Smartsheet (Kotlin, Java, SpringBoot)
• Solve challenging distributed systems problems and work with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes)
• Lead code reviews and architectural discussions as you work with other software engineers and product managers
• Mentor junior engineers on code quality and other industry best practices
• Forge a strong partnership with product management and other key areas of the business

You Have:

• 7+ years of software development experience building highly scalable, highly available applications
• 7+ years of programming experience with full-stack technologies such as Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript
• 2+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.)
• Experience developing, documenting, and supporting REST APIs
• Front-end technologies like React, VueJS, AngularJS would be a plus
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
• Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis

Smartsheet provides a competitive range of compensation for roles that may be hired in different geographic areas we are licensed to operate our business from. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, level of professional, educational experience, skills, and specific candidate location. In addition, this role will be eligible for a market competitive bonus and RSU stock grant upon accepted offer. California & New York: $178,200 to $253,800 | All other US States: $165,000 to $235,000
