Role Overview:

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Coupang’s Finance Platform team, building scalable backend systems that power core financial operations such as settlements and payouts.

The team is building a common finance platform that supports end-to-end partner settlement systems and financial workflows used across the organization. These systems process tens of millions of events per day, requiring high scalability, reliability, and correctness.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own key components within this platform, working on backend systems that integrate distributed data processing, real-time event handling, and cloud-native architectures.

You will have the opportunity to :

• Build large-scale backend systems supporting settlement and payout platforms
• Work on distributed event-driven systems processing tens of millions of events daily
• Solve real-world financial system challenges involving scale, correctness, and reliability
• Contribute to a multi-year initiative to modernize finance platforms at Coupang
• Gain exposure to modern data and streaming technologies (Kafka, Spark, Flink)

Key Responsibilities: 

• Design and develop backend services for finance platform systems such as settlements and payouts
• Own and deliver medium-to-large features end-to-end, from design through deployment
• Build scalable and reliable systems using Java and cloud-native technologies
• Work with streaming and data processing systems (Kafka, Spark, Flink) to handle high-volume data flows
• Contribute to architectural decisions within your team’s scope and drive component-level ownership
• Break down well-defined problems, evaluate trade-offs, and implement efficient solutions
• Ensure high-quality code with strong focus on maintainability, performance, and scalability
• Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and actively reduce technical debt
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to understand business requirements and deliver impact
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team-level engineering excellence

Qualifications: 

• 4–6 years of backend software engineering experience
• Strong programming skills in Java (or similar backend language)
• Experience building REST APIs and distributed systems
• Solid understanding of system design fundamentals and design trade-offs
• Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
• Strong problem-solving ability and ownership mindset
• Ability to independently deliver features with minimal guidance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with streaming/data technologies such as Kafka, Spark, or Flink
• Exposure to financial systems, payments, or settlement platforms
• Experience working with large-scale, high-throughput systems
• Familiarity with databases such as Aurora, Redis, or similar
• Experience with microservices-based architecture
• Understanding of event-driven systems and asynchronous processing

Type of work model

• Hybrid / Onsite / Remote working

Our Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week, depending on the role requirement. Some businesses may require more time in office due to nature of work.
