What You'll Do:

HG Insights is looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to work on a small R&D team reporting directly to the CTO. This position will be a key contributor working on developing next generation projects, including expanding on core assets to unlock new opportunities for our customers and increase the quality and fidelity of our insights. We are inventors, and our R&D team has successfully filed 5 patents in the last 2 years. What You'll Be Responsible For:

• Tell a story by building user interactive (full-stack) experiments in our flagship new platform to help bring new data insights to life
• Help scale new machine learning and large scale data solutions built upon processing billions of unstructured documents and a large data lake to extract/syndicate our intelligence for customer consumption.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering Teams to build the most effective solutions
• You will work on research products alongside the CTO that impact the world by bringing new innovations to market
• You will help architect and design large scale enterprise big-data systems
• You will work on ideas from different team members as well as your own
• Attend daily stand-up meetings, planning sessions, encourage others, and collaborate at a rapid pace
• Collaborate closely with all the other members of the team to take shared responsibility for the overall efforts that the team has committed to
• Interact with users as necessary to clarify requirements and take ownership of the quality of software
• Work with existing toolsets while simultaneously bringing new ideas and approaches into the team

What You’ll Need:

• BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related technical discipline
• 5+ years of designing and programming in a work setting
• Strong skills in both architecture and testing, and an inventor mindset
• Solid understanding of pragmatic agile development practices
• Experience pitching new concepts to enterprise customers
• Strong SQL skills and ability to work across our stack 
• Well rounded AWS experience
• React.js/front-end experience
• Solid backend in either OOP or functional programming paradigms
• Proven track record of successful project delivery
• Ability to work autonomously and on a team
• Experience working with interesting and successful projects

Nice to Haves:

• Functional Programming experience (Elixir, Rust, etc)
• Data validation and testing
• Proficiency in Python
• Experience with web services using REST
• Comfortable working with CI/CD and automation environments such as Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform or similar
• Self-learner, hacker, technology advocate who can work on anything
• Desire to learn and grow
• Experience mentoring others

This role is a hybrid role that can work remotely, in our Santa Barbara office, or a combination of both.
