We are looking for a Software Engineer to work on our Surfaces team. The Surfaces team is responsible for maintaining and improving the front-end code in dbt Cloud. It does that in two ways.
First, it contributes directly to front-end efforts. Those efforts can be related to architecture, to the platform, or to the creation of a new component or feature.
Second, it supports and leads the front-end guild. The FE guild aims to promote best practices, establish standards, and provide guidance and support to frontend engineers across the organization. Our goal is to create exceptional user experiences by leveraging the latest frontend technologies and tools, while advocating for quality, accessibility, and performance.
In this role, you can expect to:
- Contribute directly to building the front-end of dbt Cloud by writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code using modern front-end technologies (React).
- Contribute to developing and improving our front-end component library.
- Work closely with product engineering teams to help them build new product experiences.
- Serve as an internal front-end expert and advise other teams on front-end best practices.
- Contribute to defining quality standards and drive the overall reliability of our front-end code.
- Manage trade-offs, priorities, and deliverables by applying your experience bringing projects to successful completion.
- Support the career development of team members by actively providing mentorship and coaching on client-side design patterns, frontend architecture, and technical communication.
- Collaborate with designers to implement user interfaces and ensure a seamless user experience.
- Conduct thorough testing and debugging of front-end applications to ensure high-quality and bug-free software.
- Stay up to date with the latest front-end trends, technologies, and best practices, and proactively propose innovative solutions to improve development processes.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Work in an agile development environment, actively participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and other agile ceremonies.
- Display a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and initiative in driving projects to completion.
Qualifications:
- Have 5+ years experience as a software engineer OR
- Minimum requirement of Bachelors degree in related field (computer science, computer engineering, etc.)Â OR
- Completed enrollment in engineering related bootcamp
You are a good fit if you:
- Have experience with React and Typescript
- Enjoy working closely with Product Design
- Value iterative development and shipping value early and often
- Understand how to make tradeoffs to ship useful features today without sacrificing long-term quality
- Value interacting with end-users and deeply understanding their needs
You'll have an edge if you:
- Have worked developing and deploying a complex single page application
- Have worked with Django
- Have experience working in a distributed company
- Salary:Â $154,000-$200,000
