Senior Software Engineer/Principal Software Engineer - Cloud-Native Services

What You'll Do:

• Work with customer and team members to understand project requirements and scope.
• Design/develop/modify software for microservices and related systems.
• Decompose designs into subcomponents and tasks to be assigned to members of the team.
• Research and analyze new libraries, technologies and tools that may be utilized to meet program requirements.
• Perform full software life cycle functions including software/firmware requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, and documentation.
• Develop software within the defined agile process.
• Develop strong customer relationships, understand customer needs, and connect needs with Ball's technology roadmap during capture and execution. Establish and nurture necessary industry partnerships to effectively compete for and execute programs.
• Support proposal development (strategies, management, writing, reviews) to successfully capture new defense and intelligence business, particularly in the ground processing functional area.
• Collaborate with employees and outside customers at all levels, be able and willing to contribute wherever and however needed, lead and guide program activities, and supervise and mentor team members.
• Research current and emerging technologies and incorporate them into system architectures.
• Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

What You'll Need:

• Engineer Senior - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
• Engineer Principal - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
• Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
• A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
• 8 or more years professional experience in software development preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of object-oriented design.
• Advanced knowledge of algorithm design and analysis.
• Experience with one or more modern programing languages such as Python, C++, C#, or Java.
• Experience with one or more commercial cloud services such as AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.
• Experience with microservices design and implementation.
• Experience with agile software development processes.
• Exceptional technical writing skills.
• Experience with distributed computing and large-scale systems preferred.
• Experience with message broker services such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or similar technologies preferred.
• Experience with IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS technologies preferred.
• Solid Science and Math foundation preferred.
• Experience with one or more of the following technologies is preferred:
  • Linux
  • Docker or similar container technology
  • Kubernetes or similar container orchestration technology
  • Istio or similar service mesh technology
  • Helm package manager
  • API Gateway
  • Message brokers
  • Google Protocol Buffers
  • XML and XSDs
  • JSON
  • Network protocols, e.g., TCP and UDP

Full-Time In-Person Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working in the Ball corporate offices full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:

• HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER SENIOR: $133,500 - $168,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
• HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER PRINCIPAL: $150,000 - $189,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
