Job Description

Volley is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the development and deployment of our automated parking solution. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned software engineer who loves working at the intersection of software, electronics, and mechanical systems (and has demonstrated hands-on experience). You will drive development of core systems including improved AGV sensing, control, and infrastructure software (including ROS), as well as ground-up development of our automated EV charging robot. And, you will have opportunities to contribute to our simulation software, interface with our multi-agent planning system, drive quality efforts and beyond.

You can design systems and architect and implement software, are familiar with modern development practices, and are comfortable owning portions of the system. Overall you love to prototype and build things, find robust and simple solutions to complex technical problems, and want to ship products that make a real-world impact. You also know what it takes to debug a robotic system and have some fun stories to share on how the real world always surprises us.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end design and implementation for specific features, including motion planning and control SW, sensing and localization systems - specific projects may include development and qualification of automated EV charging, improvements to AGV sensing & control, among others, from prototype to production
  • Increase the robustness & resiliency of our robotics software, help us to maintain as well as tune our ROS2-based robotics infrastructure
  • Collaborate with the team on architecture and infrastructure choices, as well as data pipelines
  • Support system integration, test, and debugging; participate in demonstrations and pilot deployments
  • This work may include cross-functional requirements gathering, rapid prototyping to prove concepts, the development of automated tests, using and enhancing simulation environments, and simulation at scale to prove performance - whatever is required to deliver a robust product

Requirements

  • BS (MS preferred) in CS, ME or related discipline
  • Experience writing software that works with hardware
  • 2+ years professional experience building and shipping production-quality software, with a focus on Linux
  • Demonstrated experience developing software in the areas of motion planning and control for robotics or comparable complex electromechanical systems (e.g., medical devices). Nice to have - but not strictly required - is experience with object manipulation and sensing/perception (e.g., optical sensors like cameras or lidars) or localization/state estimation.
  • Experience with bring-up and debug of complex electromechanical systems/robots; as well as simulation tooling and with test automation
  • System design experience. middlewares such as ROS, experience with rapid prototyping and iteration; familiarity with embedded systems and working knowledge of python a plus
  • Demonstrated production level C++ skills, ideally modern C++(>=17)
  • Experience with modern software development practices and modern software development tools and practices (automated testing, Git, CI, Docker, K8s, etc)
  • Excitement to learn new technologies and willingness to dive in on various efforts and contribute where most needed

The target base salary range for this position $150000 - $210000 annually.
