As a Solution Architect, you will be responsible to develop practical and workable digital solutions for our internal business and technical teams. You’ll analyze and evaluate business systems and user needs to craft solutions that are scalable and adaptable, working collaboratively with Operations, Enterprise, Growth, and Digital teams. We're seeking candidates with expertise creating these systems and a passion for enabling teammates to help build and support. The Solution Architect will work closely with our business users and technical team, acting as the domain and subject matter expert. Experience working with cloud computing, microservices-based architecture, ERP, and data warehouse systems is very much desired.

This full-time position reports to the Director of Strategy & Architecture and can work remote from any U.S. state where Balsam Brands is currently setup as an employer, which includes: CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, MA, MO, NJ, NC, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, VA, and WA. This role can also work locally in our Redwood City, CA or Boise, ID office location. Our local teams work in a hybrid model, which currently includes Tuesday and Wednesday in-office.

To ensure sufficient overlap with functional and cross-functional team members globally, some flexibility with this role's regular work schedule will be required. Most of our teams have overlap with early morning and/or early evening PST. Specific scheduling needs for this role will be discussed in the initial interview.

What you’ll do: 

  • Analyze business requirements, process and apply solutions in line with business requirements and needs
  • Represent and communicate technical requirements and trade-offs in a business environment to facilitate effective decision making
  • Build diagrams and workflows to demonstrate steps and describe logical operational steps of the system
  • Create accurate work estimates and design solutions for execution
  • Ability to work on complex projects independently and with a team during multiple phases of a project
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert who acts as a “consultant” on complex projects/initiatives

What you bring to the table:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Minimum 12+ years related experience
  • Experience working with ERP, CRM & Data Warehouse systems
  • Java is an essential requirement
  • Awareness of different integration/message exchange patterns
  • Understanding of a variety of architectural styles such as Service Oriented Architectures, Event Driven Architectures, Client-Server Architectures, REST
  • Understanding of network communications, including TCP/IP, HTTP, and RPC protocols
  • Familiarity with security principles using SSL protocols and data encryption specific to microservice architecture implementation
  • Experience working with microservices, API and Headless Architecture
  • Experience working with and integrating enterprise system through API platforms
  • Experience working with and coaching Agile/Scrum Teams
  • Retail and eCommerce industry experience is desirable

Travel for remote team members: At Balsam Brands, we believe that time spent together, in-person, collaborating and building relationships is important to who we are. For our newest remote Brandits, we will arrange travel to one of our local offices within your first three months of employment so you can meet and train with your new team in-person. You may also get to travel an additional 1 – 2 times a year for events such as team retreats, offsites, or learning and development opportunities.

The base pay range for this position is: $130,000 to $204,000. Where an individual falls within that range will vary based on several factors including geographic location and may vary depending on candidate qualifications and experience, applicable skills, and other job-related factors. We benchmark our pay ranges against current external data sources and regularly review compensation for our team members.
