As the Senior Specialist, Payroll (Garnishment) you will provide effective management of the payroll garnishment process for the company. You will ensure compliance with regulations, process and audit all garnishments and resolve legal inquiries. Please note that this position is in scope to transition to the brokered transportation services company that will be created with the planned separation of XPO's North American Transportation business from its less-than-truckload (LTL) business. What you'll do on a typical day:
  • Interpret and determine action required for all garnishments received. Garnishment types include, but not limited to, child support, spousal support, creditor garnishments, IRS tax levies, state withholding orders, local taxes, Chapter 13 bankruptcies and student loans
  • Process e-IWOs
  • Responsible for the setup of all new garnishments in data systems, including new vendor setups as needed
  • Responsible for making all court ordered changes and in responding to notifications to remain in compliance
  • Stay current with federal, multi-state and Canadian regulatory requirements
  • Communicate effectively with management, Human Resources, internal departments, employees, attorneys, government agencies, and other third parties
  • Support other areas and business needs within the department as required
  • Process ServiceNow cases

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you'll need:
  • 2 years' experience handling all aspects of garnishments in a large, national company

It'd be great if you also have:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of general payroll experience with a minimum of
  • Knowledge of garnishment laws in all 50 states and Canada
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, Oracle, Kronos, and/or SAP payroll systems
  • Strong analytical skills, organization skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Effectively identify and resolve problems in high stress situations; ability to maintain professional demeanor when dealing with highly emotional and volatile topics
  • Solid interpersonal skills; participate in a team environment and build strong working relationships
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written); communicate effectively with peers, attorneys, end users, and all levels of corporate management
